Have any of you guys noticed you always lose your favorite birds to predators?

it's never the hen that's a pecker or the weird acting ones (not that I want them to be eaten but I'm just trying to make a point lol)

It's always the favorites. The hens you can walk up to and pet like a cat. Or the ones with the funniest personalities.

Yes, it's always the favorite. I know from personal experience.

happy birthday to me
Happy Birithday!

So I was reading about Egg drop syndrome, It doesn't really say if it can be passed to other chickens. Does anybody know if I should be worried about my other chickens? Meanwhile I will keep looking
Your egg is just probably a whoopsie. I wouldn't worry unless you keep getting strange eggs.

Egg drop syndrome doesn't appear to be here in the US from what I found, but it does transmit vertically. (through the egg in incubation) Looks like it started in ducks.

That was my conclusion as well. It's everywhere but here and Canada. I'm thinking its because she's laying though her molt.

Thank you so much. I have never done this before and I want to save her shell.
We did that with our first Easter egger shells. I took my husbands drill bit kit and started with the smallest one and twisted it with my fingers and made a tiny hole. Then went up in size till I had a big enough hole. Then poked the yolk a bunch of times and blew it out. Rinse with water and then rinse with a kitchen/bathroom cleaner that has bleach and let it dry :)

I had a hard time getting the drill bits started which is why I switched to the grinding bits on the dremel. I found if I started the hole using the side of the bit rather than the tip it went so much better. I just grind off the "polish" of the shell then I can get the holes where I want them easier.

Dremels are very cool.

A minute in the microwave after the egg is cleaned out will cure the shell and make it harder to break. If the Microwave is used, the shell does not need to air dry for 24 hours.
