I made sexlinks with my marans roo and barred rock girls. They're soon pretty and lay a nice big dark eggI'm hoping to replace my hatchery layers with the basque. Seems like a better idea than raising sex links since mine are fizzling out.![]()
I do not know of anyone with them but would check with Elite Poultry and Papa Brooder.Just curious, does anyone here raise Breda fowl? I've got 10 eggs in the bator that are due on the 10th. Pictures maybe?![]()

They area also a nice Dual purpose breed and are one of the best tasting too.I am not sure how they compare to commercial layers but I am really impressed by their production. I got 6 eggs a day from my 7 hens all spring and summer. They are molting now and I am still getting a couple of eggs a day. Another thing I really like is the fact that you can tell their sex fairly young, around 4 weeks. The boys stay light and get cuckoo tails and the girls typically are a darker orange.
BTW is anyone in need a a nice basque rooster? I got a call from someone looking for a home for their roo. She sent photos and he is really nice. Bright yellow legs, clean marking and cuckoo tail. I think he is a good breeder candidate. I can forward you the photos if interested. I think he is 12 weeks old or so. I can ask her.
Quote: Thanks.
Right now I am hoping to raise them for breeding, as I just love the appearance of these birds, but we will most likely raise some for meat.
Sure does, and I definitely will! I'm very excited about this one.![]()
I am on a list to get Colloncas next year.
They lay Green to Lavendar eggs.
