That's pretty but if I got one, I would feel obligated to fill it, and the desire to empty it.

Absolutely stunning.  That boy is built like a tank.

A year of searching?  You should have asked here.  She's not active anymore, but Katy has some fantastic SLW.

Thank YOU Happy Chooks. He is pretty cute. Actually I knew I wanted these more like 18 months ago. And didn't know enough to deserve good ones. Not sure I do now :D Back then all I knew was that I didn't want hatchery stock. ;) It's good to have to work for what you want.

What is Your Katy's BYC name? I do remember a BYC Katy with Bantam Wyandottes but she's in Kansas I think.

Pardon my SLW photo bombs Wish I was better at running the camera.

Hi, I am having some difficulty looking for an answer to moving chickens to another town. We are moving from Placerville to San Andreas, down past Jackson, CA. We will build the coop first then I thought about putting the 20 chickens into the back of my husbands truck, it has a shell on it, and just taking them all to the new place. Would that be ok? It's about 2 hours from where we are now. They might have a little diarrhea but they might be jostled around a bit. I don't have crates to put them in. Any suggestions? Or could you point me to the correct Forum. Thank you.
Judy

Holy cow!!!!  Those are BEAUTIFUL...... put me on the list for Spring...... I might be able to get my self all situated by then!  Wow!!!

Lots of time, to get ready Ali since the girls are nowhere near laying. For now they are eye candy to enjoy. I just wanted to share :woot.[/quote]

Thank you for sharing, it's the only candy I can have.

I used to live there, great place. maybe you could get a couple of big cardboard boxes to make them more secure and with the dark they should be quiet. I would use shavings in the bottom. If not you could always duct tape dark plastic bags on inside of shell to make it dark and use shavings in the bed of the truck.

Well I just moved my chickens about a 15-20 minute drive and I borrowed the biggest pet carrier I have ever seen from the Placer SPCA. It held 11 chickens, but I could have squeezed the other two it without a problem. It was a warm day so I tried to give them a little room.

That worked really well for me and they were in the pet carrier ALL day as I had to move the coop too. My other option was going to be a large box with holes, but if you don't mind the poo, just stick them in the back of the truck with plenty of shavings or something down so they don't slip. I didn't have that option as I have an SUV with carpet in the back. You just have to be able to reach them in the back of the truck to transfer them into the new coop.

Cardboard boxes with holes in the side. Put shavings in the bottom to keep them from sliding around. Bankers boxes work great too, but you have to tape the lid shut.

Those are beautiful Silver Laced Wyandottes.

You will need to find a way other than BYC to contact her though:

I'm a Farmer/Rancher Wife,Mom & Grandma No Farms, No food.
If you want house chickens and ducks in diapers then this is the forum for you.
I've got 50+ years of poultry experience, but this 'poultry' forum isn't for me anymore.
If you're going to complain about farmers, don't do it with a full belly or a mouthful.

She has not been on BYC since February of this year.
