NICE! I might have to get me one when my pullets start laying!

I will check with Urch turnland poultry early in January unless I hear that the new price list is out. The dates for shipping are often not too solid for places like that. They could have bad hatches that messes up their schedule.Ron awhile back you mentioned that you wanted to place/split an order with Ururch Poultry I would be interested but only if I have a broody at the time you want to place the order and if the turn around is fairly quick. Tom and I have a deal where every broody who wants to be a mama badly enough will be allowed to but other than that we have agreed to a chicken moratorium. Getting 5 or so chicks to break a broody fits within those parametersNow if I have two broodies I may want to throw some SPW into the mix.![]()
I want to try Mottled Javas. I have read mixed reviews but is sounds like those who are patient with their slow maturation are rewarded with a great all around homestead bird so I am game.
It is entirely up to you. I know I am not making it easy but if you are willing to wait and Mr. Uruch can ship chicks promptly when my hen (s) need them I will be happy to split an order.![]()
Thanks Bunches!!! Buckbeak thanks you too, I am sure she is tired of having nekked shoulders.HenSavers (found at source site www.hensaver.com and on Amazon.com!) offer wing/shoulder protectors on hen saddles. (Personally, I like to call them "aprons" instead of saddles because that's so much more lady-like.)
Anyway, they protect wing shoulders very well.
I have two Egg Skelters, a LF size and one for bantam eggs. Bought 'em over two years ago.... I chose the silver/gray ones, so the eggs are the focus. I didn't want to have contrasting colors in anything but the eggs.

Dick Horstman is another possibility. He does not have Javas but does have Silver Penciled Rocks and Silver Laced Wyanndottes
Many many thanks...I had read about them developing a resistance but had forgotton. So, in 2 weeks when I reworm I will use a pour on Ivomec since last time I used Balbazen.Probably Valbazen? Another great wormer, but it doesn't help liz with the lice. Ivomec will kill lice too. I swap back and forth between the two so they don't develop an immunity to it. I wormed last year with Ivomec and this year with Valbazen.
I've read you should withdraw from the eggs for 14 days.
No need to dust their heads, lice congregate in the warm areas around the vent and under the wings. Flip them upside down, sprinkle some Sevin on their tush, run your fingers through their feathers to work it down into their feathers. Sprinkle some under their wings and spread it around with your fingers. Redust again in 10 days when the eggs hatch. (keep doing it every 10 days until you don't find any more lice or eggs stuck to the feathers)Thank you, regarding dusting the chickens with Sevin what is the best way to do that lol? And how do you get their head without getting it in their eyes/nose/mouth?
No. Follow up with the same wormer in 2 weeks. Then next year, use a different wormer. Many many thanks...I had read about them developing a resistance but had forgotton. So, in 2 weeks when I reworm I will use a pour on Ivomec since last time I used Balbazen.
OK, I know what I want for Christmas now! Or my birthday, which is 3 days after... Now if someone would just lay something!
Quote: Yes, but the mites are like vampires--they come out at night and feed on the chickens. Treating the coop is very important with them.
Dab them with Ivomec and dust them at dusk.
Have you heard about the shake and bake method? Get a 13 gallon trash liner, sprinkle some poultry dust or seven in it. Place the chicken into the bag with the head out and shake to apply the dust.
I just dump them over and powder their bottom side....
