Beautiful boy.

His behavior of coming at you when you are messing with a hen is a good indicator that he will be a fantastic rooster. For one, he protected his flock, but backed down when he realized it was you. When I picked up a hen and she squawked, one of my barnie boys came running through the pop door and bit me on the hand. (he bit first then looked to see what he was biting) He backed down when he saw it was me and not danger.
Thanks, Kelly! I am hoping that's the case. I am even thinking about trying to keep him here in town. Today, he crowed in the coop but has yet to crow since being let out. We are not restricted from having roosters in our city but there are still noise ordinances and I haven't felt like waving any red flags in my neighborhood. Thor might change my mind. Then there are the Pita Pintas. I do not want to take them to the farm. I'm waiting for a report from Ron once he gets the rooster collars. If they work, I'm going to try to keep my Pita Pintas here.

I have breese laying for nyd hatch. I should also have quail eggs they are starting to mate in the garage again.

I also have Marans and we eggs but right now they could be pure Marans or olive Eggers or ee/cl chicks. So they are a crapshoot.

I'm worried one of my hatcheries hens is internally laying again. She is sitting on the box but I have not gotten an egg from her in month or so. She seems healthy and nothing is stuck.

Has anyone pre treated with antibiotics or seen anything on keeping them from getting a bacterial infection? Or could it be in my head? Miss fury was from the same hatchery as Buff so I'm concerned

They're 25 weeks old. And I got them from rare feathers farm
From what I can see, they are looking good. They have a ways to go to mature and your cockerel will continue to grow until he's at least a year. My boys don't crow or start showing interest in the girls until past 28 weeks and the girls don't lay until at least 30 weeks. If you are interested in a critique on your birds, you could post pics on the Langshan thread. They like to see a side shot, a front shot, a back shot, and a top shot. We have some breeders on there who have had years of experience with Langshans and are passionate about the breed.

This is what my hatchery Barred Rock was doing and I thought for sure that she had egg yolk peritonitis when I saw that her back end had light yellow droppings stuck to it. But when I checked her out, her crop was half filled water balloon squishy so I determined it was vent gleet and sour crop instead. She is enjoying the good life indoors while getting her human vaginal suppository treatment pills. She is halfway through the treatment and her crop is not so squishy but she is staying pretty still and quiet. Hopefully, another day and 2 more pills will show more improvement.

Human vaginal suppositories, ?? I didn't know that's how you treat it. I have liquid Nystatin on hand, would they both work the same? What do you do for sour crop? I have issues with a sex link bird. Sometimes she gets egg bound, usually around the time i give too many mealworms. not sure if it's related. And either her or another hen lay an egg that has a slightly fishy smell to it when you crack it. I'm not over giving flax, but it is in their feed. I didn't think of vent gleet until i read a post it could cause egg binding. I don't know if thats true or not, but it was on a post. Her rear end looks fine though.

Nystatin works the same.

I do not know if Gleet is the problem. I had one with gleet and it was obvious--red and smelly vent with white crusties. The hen still laid eggs, but they had blood on them.

Nasty!

Thanks Ron, ya her rear has no issues. So that crosses that off the list. Maybe it's just a hatchery bird with laying issues. But the one egg having the fishy smell is off-putting. Not confident it's the same hen(50/50 chance) Its not really bad, but I notice it. I did read that brown layers sometimes don't convert Omega oils well.
