Ron with the ivermectin how long does it get rid of the lice for? Does it stay in their system? Or just kill them initially and then they can get it right back?

It kills them quickly and persists for a couple of days so all adults are killed. The second treatment in 10 days kills any that hatch after the first treatment-those that were eggs. The cycle is broken which goes a long way towards controlling them.

Treating the coops once a month will help keep them away.

I had a miracle egg hatch yesterday!
Ebony was sitting on 2 eggs . I intended to give her chicks that are hatching this weekend.

About 4 days ago both the eggs had disappeared and I assumed we had mice down there. No broken eggs or anything but it had happened before.

Yesterday I heard a distressed chick. I went down to silkies courtyard and did a count (after ejecting the flying ducks Who like to fly in there and chase silkies.) And all were fine. I heard it about an hour later again and went down again paranoid now.

After investigating I saw a smashed egg outside the coop and it was making noise. Complerly.outside the courtyard on its own.it looks like it had been stepped on the egg was smashed and blood was smeared on it.

I took it upstairs after peeling the dirt egg off and stopped the bleeding and poped it in the incubator. It's is alive and fluffed now and quiet as a mouse.

It could have abandoned for up to 4 days....

Well it happened...the new puppy got a hold of a chicken while we were at thanksgiving dinner at my in laws

That is a miracle!

everyone in the foothills start cleaning the needles off the tops of your runs if you have not yet.
Details are still being worked out by Noaa ( National weather service ) but they are calling for a cold storm mid week.
with snow possible to 2000 feet or maybe lower. I have to get the blower out and get the needle off mine

I need to get a couple of things ready but thank goodness now pine needles here! The plum tree lost it's leaves so I need to make sure the coop is water tight.

And that the silly Australorps stop sleeping in the little hutch...
