California - Northern

The kids had a blast today. We had snow ball fights and made a snow man:) The kids even took a cardboard box and "sledded" down the hill, LOL. The snow had almost all melted by the time I took the picture of the snowman.

Loved the snow, but I am not looking forward to the bitter cold tonight and tomorrow:(

your snowman is wonderful! One of my favorite photos is of my girls and their cousin and their snowman in Tahoe :) Good stuff! Stay warm!

My Dorkings are low girls in the PO and tonight they were on the aluminum poo tray at bed time. It was clean but it won't be for long and their feet will be cold so I am hoping that they will grow a couple of backbones and assert themselves. Jamie Lee Curtis was up on the top roost the other night but apparently she was evicted...My young girls and the General all have such a mellow sweet living situation. It does complicate things when you integrate. There is NO drama with my 2013 group...continuous with the older girls and their integrated frenemies.

Chicken coop drama, LOL. Soon, I will have to integrate about 13 more juveniles ...they are still sleeping in my outdoor brooder. Usually there is not too much fuss. The hens are used to new youngsters being added to the flock. it's the teenage or nearing POL pullets that cause the most drama with newly added young stock. I have been slowly selecting for overall peaceful flock members and trouble makers are not allowed to stay. Trisha

I have been quite frustrated with Western Pet and Feed not getting King Feed for me. I saw a post on here about Bar Ale coming out with a Non GMO layer. I checked their website and they only had Natural. It was Non Soy but had corn in it. I called Hayes feed and asked about the Natural and she said no, but we have Non GMO! I picked up two 40# bags today for $16.46 each: It has Fish meal in it!
I feel ya in the frustration department of Western Pet and Feed. This looks pretty similar in a lot of ways but the still went with the 16% protein. The King Freedom went 17%. I am sure the meal worms are freezing in the garage but they are too stinky to bring inside. I may not have any for the extra protein after this cold snap.

That is great!

Did you get your

From Deanne or Megan?

Thanks! I'm super excited to check again tomorrow and see if she keeps up. She's from Deanne. It's funny because the first egg dance I got was from the Cream Legbar two weeks ago. Then the Welsummer one week ago. The Basque fell in right after, but she's more "enthusiastic" -- I pretty much just have to look at her funny and she'll do the dance. So glad at least one of them is paying rent!

I am worried about tonight lol. says it may be 9 degrees later
I hope the weather man will be wrong. That's cold!

ya, my mealies were getting too cold. I brought them in and covered them with a blanket. DH didn't notice them for a while. When he asked if those were my mealworms, I just said "Um…No??" He wasn't happy. I think he's good about my hobbies because I used to want a beehive and he says he's highly allergic to bees. So he's just thankful I didn't bring home bees
