My babies are all grown up. They are checking out the nest boxes like crazy! But they're not red in the face yet at all...hmmm haha

Lovely Orps. Some of my girls took as long as 8 months to lay.

I noticed after I outcrossed to an unrelated line their progeny all started laying much earlier, most just over 6 months.

Of all of my orp colors I think these are the weakest variation. Not much of a gene pool here and it's not good :/ they are about 7 months old now

I have a langshan laying her egg from standing on the roost. She gets up there and lays it and then it drops down and breaks

I put a nest box in weeks ago for them to get familiar with but no, she just kicks all the straw/shavings out of the box but doesn't lay In it! How do I fix this?

Do you have a "nest egg" in the nest? It can be very difficult to break a floor layer, and some illnesses can cause roost laying overnight.
