I get my feed at Tractor Supply in Auburn. Best price for Flock Raiser. It is a good all round feed that can be fed to chicks on up through adulthood. You will need to give them free choice oyster shell once they start laying.
I might run into you there. I too buy my Flockraiser at TSC in Auburn. Echo Valley is $3 more per bag.

Guys I had the most horrible experience yesterday ever :'(

I went over to my friends house (we've known each other forever)

Her mom said she was in back at her chicken coop. I went back and saw some barred feathers scattered. The dog got ahold of the barred rock hen. She looked fine, just some feathers missing from her back.

I got some stuff to clean her up, and I lift her hackle feathers up, and I see her neck. The dog ripped her head half off.

The poor girl was shaking in pain. I shed a tear or 6... I said we need to have her dispatched because she was suffering so bad. I called her dad who was on the way home and he said he would when he got home.

We went back in to tell her mom what happened.

The mom said "yeah I was there when he got ahold of her."

Then I said "oh my gosh what did you do?"

she said "I yelled a little but the chicken wasn't really trying to get away so I figured if It deserved it"

WHAT THE HELL?!
Oh how awful. I'm so sorry for your friend.

!!!!!
I blame mario for our start in chickens. Now it's a shared hobby that also provides food and entertainment.

Speaking of entertainment... Our three serama Roos take the cake. Just the fact that they survived the -14 week and love to run around in the snow is amazing to me! They are the funniest characters. And their feathering is just striking. Ill have to get some pictures up. They are much larger than I expected also. As large at my olandsk dwarf hens, who's sweetness I attribute to keeping the serama alive out there .

So our dwarfs have picked up laying and I think are fully settled I'm from being relocated. To me that means no mor eating e eggs and prep for a pre spring fertility check hatch. If I do it this month they will be fully feathered and able to get outside before the baby comes. That will help out a ton and I won't be considered insane when I set up for turkeys in may/ June. ( exactly when the baby will come!;-) )

Who wants to enable me with turkeys?....

A few marraduna basque...

A few cream legbar....

Have you heard about the Cinco De Mayo Turkey Hatch a Long? Turkeys hatched for it will be ready for Thanks Giving.

Are you enabled enough yet?

In Grass Valley at Ridge Feed, Flock Raiser is $5.00 dollars more a bag!

Maybe we should make up some BYC badges and wear them when were out shopping for chicken food at Tractor Supply so we can find each other . . .
