I will also have birchen marans eggs this spring -- one girl is laying already, the other looks like she might start any day...

and in case anyone is interested, I have a "spare" black marans pullet, who has a small bit of copper showing at her neck, so i don't want to have her in the same pen as the other marans, and could consider giving her up -- she's almost at POL and very handsome.  should have nice dark eggs.  if anyone is interested, please PM me!

Is she one of louie's babies laura?

no, she hatched from an egg i got from a Texas marans breeder, April Howington (http://www.texasmarans.com/) -- here's a photo of her at 11 weeks of age, i haven't taken one more recently:

i named her Clemantine, due to that orange/copper at her neck -- and she's very personable, always first to try to grab the bag of treats -- but i can't use her for breeding, due to that copper leakage.

and here's a photo of the eggs she came from:

I hatched 35 chicks, problem is they started hatching a day early while I was at the stockton show and I did not have them separate by breed and three of the breeds I hatched are yellow (Bresse, Basque and Sulmtalers). Good luck telling them apart now.

I just listed them on craigslist as mystery chicks.
Oh dear! That is too bad! Sounds kind of fun to me though

If I lived closer, I'd snatch them up!
