if you decide to break down and order some, Deann, i'd still be interested in sharing an order! one of my campines definitely has the wrong eye color, so would like to get a few more if i can...
I'll pm Lual and Carolyn to see if they are still interested. I would be up for getting a few Crevecoeurs. I love this little hen and would be happy to have a few more.

great, just let me know!

and @chiqita , that's an idea, although i can also just raise these chicks in the house & give her some of my own flock's eggs -- i AM interested to see how the isbar/marans x isbar F2 would turn out!

I collected eggs a bit ago and found one odd one. It actually appears to have some lavender specks on it. I'm not sure who laid it. I have Marans, a red sex link (who laid earlier today), a black cochin banty (who also laid earlier today), a Blue Wyandotte (who is broody and not laying right now...she is in a different nest box), a buff orphington, a blue wheaten Ameraucana (has not started laying yet that I know of) and a buff x wheaten EE Ameraucana ( who has also not started laying yet as far as I know). Have any of you seen lavender specks on an egg before?

Yes, my bantam buff Brahma hens sometimes lay an egg with those neat lavender spots

As far as I know it is just calcium deposits.

Those darn girls still holding out on you? Must still be adjusting to the move. The EEs sister has not started laying again yet either. But the sisters of the Ameraucana pullet have. Hope they start laying soon for you!

I wonder if it is my Buff Orphington who laid it...maybe it's a "Buff" thing. The older hen I got from you is looking like she might be ready to lay soon, but the younger one not so much. She is the smallest of all my birds and I think lowest on the pecking order. For a while she would not come out of the coop when I would take food out for them unless I opened the hatch where I collect eggs. Then she would come thru a nest box and have me lift her out. The others would run her off from the feed pan (I am giving Fermented Feed). I had a round one, but switched to a 36" long trough so now she can find a place to eat more easily without getting pecked. She is getting more confident now. She is the friendliest of all my girls and will follow me around when they are out in the yard. She has been squatting for the last month or so. I really love her so even if it takes a while to get eggs from her I have no problem with that. I suspect she will start soon as the days get longer. My pen does not get a lot of sun this time of year with it so low in the sky.

My new baby chicks are almost 2 weeks old. It's been a while since I've checked in here! Sorry for the pic overload, but they are so cute I had to share. How is everyone doing?

I finally got some time to butcher some cockerels and a 2 year- old hen. Going to make some chicken soup:) I wish I had some earlier this month when I was so sick. I am starting to get better at processing. I skinned them because I didn't want to set up hot water for plucking.
