California - Northern

She is very nice looking. I like Splash.

She looks like she may grow into the correct shape. She is a bit young though.
Thank you Ron. I figured I was being a bit premature in asking about her. But just like Christmas, I can't wait to see what I have

Hey Ron! I have a white Jersey Giant pullet that has 4 black spots like the ones on Chrissy's Splash Maran. Of course thats not standard for white or Splash, but could I consider it a "sport"? Would I breed her with other splashes or blues?
4 black spots? So that is a DQ? Is it supposed to be lighter in color and not so much black? I'll try to get more pics in a few weeks. I never really noticed them being black spots. I will check that out and look at her again. Thank you :)

I was thinking the same thing. She looks alert and healthy, but I would watch her weight.

]In the pictures it appears her keel is showing. You should feel the breast you should not see the keel and maybe it is only the photos.
Walt
Thank you Walt and justruttin. You know they were all a bit chunkier a few weeks back. When I went to get more feed from Modesto Milling they only had the corn and soy FREE chick start. I've heard of corn free not giving enough weight gain for meat birds, so maybe that's it. Even the Bresse look skinnier. They were REALLY plump a few weeks ago. I'll get more pics in a few weeks. What do you all feed at 9 weeks?

Thank you all so much for your input. I appreciate your experience and knowledge as I learn about these birds :)

beautiful splash girl!

i'm happy to report that Craigslist worked its magic and my "extra" black marans pullet is off to a new home -- which is something of a relief, as i couldn't use her for breeding (leaking copper at her neck), but she also was a bit ornery and wasn't getting along with the others. yay, one problem solved!

Hi Chrissy! Your girl is lovely. As far as my comment about her color, please ignore me :}
I cannot overstate how completely clueless I am about color. Your Maran has a nice pattern to her spots as well as some other positives that my Jersey Giant doesn't.

You could breed her to either depending on what you wanted:

Ron thanks for the chart. That's just my speed...PICTURES.

Tomorrow morning at 6am will be 20 days for my eggs. I thought I just heard a peep. Was I imagining it? I have moved my humidity up to 50% was going to wait another day to move to 65%. Moved temp to 98 deg. Thanks for the help

I broke down and added the humidity gauge... I had to add water to my paper towel wad anyway. It was open for maybe 7 seconds...

I set the humidity gauge on the top of the plastic carton that's holding my egg cartons with the eggs in it. It's only reading 47. It is at the top of the incubator because it's on the plastic container. Should I add another moist paper towel? Or something?

There is a total of 4 eggs pipped and one has pipped multiple times (zipping?)
