Ok, who is just put the humidity meter in? If you are too low, put a sponge under your air hole and keep it wet with a straw. IM sorry I lost the quote, and Im at the computer too, usually that's because of the phone being wonky!
Here are some photos I took of my boys for someone who needs one, anyone looking for a frilkie showgirl? he has an odd comb, but is interesting looking otherwise. And here is Danny boy, who got into a fight with Hat trick yesterday, and is consoling himself with the white pullets from stockton who are almost out of q.
see all the bad hair day feathers? he is socket chicken!
Danny got all his hair pulled out by hattrick. He is bald but handsome.
It was a sad morning this morning. I was introducing 2 new breese pullets to the breeding coop and they were sleeping on the top of the cage, and something got them, even in their run. Mario thinks we have raccoons working in packs and scaring them to the side of the pen. The only ate one so I'm having breese tomorrow .
I am going to build another tier to the coop so they cant sit on top of it anymore, and will always be safe. And line the bottom with another layer of wire 3 ft high so no hands can get into the pen. Hopefully that will do it. Whatever it is has learned how to work the pen, it is the third chicken from that place this month, with no other night losses.
Also, people have gone quail crazy, I had one person ask for 25 female James Marie, and somone else ask for 50. These people have not seen my house!!!!
Oh no worries! I don't know about all of these things so I don't ever take offense. If my birds have something to improve on I like to know. I did re-look and she has some areas where the feathers have more of a solid spot. In person they look less black and more dark grey. I still don't know if that's a DQ. I can't find a SOP on Splashes. So I welcome your comments. If it's something that I need to work on I need to know, and I appreciate it . It's just an area I hadn't thought of before, so I need to find out about it.
to be clear -- "splash" is not a breed, it's a color -- the presence of two copies of the blue gene. there are SOPs and DQs for breeds, but not for colors themselves, as i understand it? and splashes can vary from almost-all-white to lots of splashes of grey/black -- there's no one standard for how much splashing they should or shouldn't have.
I'm in Paradise so not quite as far north or west, but certainly far enough away not to be competition. And like Ron said, people in Arizona would be closer than me

Congrats Audio51! they are pretty!! I keep getting sidetracked at all these pretty birds. I've seen there is a Chocolate AM project being worked on as well. I'd love the mottled, chocolate and some Blue AM's

I couldn't find the SOP for Marans with the Splash color so I looked for any breed with Splash (figuring it should be the same). I know certain color varieties aren't accepted yet in the APA, so I figured that's why it was hard for me to find. I honestly can't remember if Blues are accepted yet, but I think they are not. I just wanted to see what anything said on the Splash coloring.
Thank you for the info. That sounds like she doesn't have a big fault then. I was just worried that it would be hard to breed out if it was a DQ. Her mom seems to have the same pattern as well.
