@chickee Woo Hoo...I finally got my first blue green egg today from the buff x wheaten hen! She was in the nest box when I went in to collect eggs but was standing on the lip. I quickly closed the lid and then heard her singing the egg song within about 30 seconds. She came out of the coop a few minutes later so I checked again and there it was! It was perfect...and very shiny! I am so happy to add this color to my egg basket!
Oooo...your eggs are lovely. I love shiny green (and blue).

I have some chicks coming from Privett Hatchery in NM. Supposed to arrive today but are still in San Jose so maybe Saturday morning. I'm not sure what their condition will be being late. Need advice on any special care since they will be longer in shipment.

Did you order some CA Grays?

Her sister just started laying again too!

I just had to share this. As you know, we had Ohio company for 3 weeks. One of them was a 10 yr old boy who did the happy dance every time he found an egg. He haunted the hen house - literally. The day we were gone for a while he'd quick go check. The blue eggs were his favorite. One night his mom was picking up his laundry and noticed his sweatshirt felt heavy. Checking pockets she found a gigantic (double yolker) blue egg! So glad she didn't step on it!

Here is a photo of him one evening with his haul.

The names for the chicks at feed store depend on the salesperson around here. I still have a Red Sex Link hens that was sold to me as a Buff Orphington. There is a feed store I buy my bird seed at that has a nice set up with about 8 different brooders, but they are all on the same level and open on top. People can go in the room and pick up chicks and don't always put them back in the one they took them out of. If they look similar it would be very easy to go home with a different breed than you intended.
I would not buy chicks from a feed store that allows the public to handle chicks. Who knows what chicken diseases those people are wearing on their sleeves.
