California - Northern

California is broken up into different areas for different purposes. This one is for a flood ma:

part of the point of posting a bunch of different maps yesterday (besides the fact that they're just fun to look at) was to point out that parts of CA will be grouped differently based on the purpose of the map -- this one is a FLOOD map, so it's grouping areas very differently than, say, an ecological map would -- for instance, the Bay/Sacto Delta is a dividing line on this map (since the rivers on either side flood into it, and probably flood very differently), but is usually the center of the bay/delta region ecologically.

so, any given map may have different boundaries for the sierras, the central coast, etc., depending on the purpose of the map and what its depicting.

here, the whole of the central valley drains the rivers coming out of the sierras, hence its all one big region -- and the north bay gets a lot more rain than the south bay, so it makes sense to split them up.

Hello Michael. Ok...who are you?? Your advise is awesome. And, although I see myself as a reasonably intelligent person, I have to re-read your posts several times.

Even though this may not come across as a compliment...it REALLY is one.
Michael is the one who introduced me to CA Greys. I started a thread last year on white egg layers looking for the least flighty. He recommended CGs to me. He was also fairly new to the breed. but not to chickens. I think he raised Wys before that. Anyway I will let you tell him mor but I always appreciate his posts so much.

There is chirping in the bator loaded with staggered hatches. Had to quickly move the day18 eggs to the hatching bater. This is a first for me. Glad I didn't go to bed early tonight !
Yay for chirping bators. I am having a hard time with the humidity in mine but I think I have come up with a solution this morning that doesn't involve opening the incubator

Day 22 and all of the other five eggs have hatched since last night. There is one egg left and has not pipped yet. I candled and the chick is very active and has internally pipped. Should I leave it alone?
Congratulations. I see that someone else told you to leave it be while there is still movement Yay!

The maps were fun yesterday!

Uh oh >·< the temp dropped in my incubator last night down into the 80s because it got colder then usual. the eggs are all two days old should they still be okay?

@chiqita so several weeks or so?
im not sure how well shipping would work for fully feathered chicls though. i know day olds have the advantage of the yolk so they are okay for a few days. they would be sent from there to reno to here because USPS is retarded. Only thing i can think of is just sending them as day olds so they survive the trip
unless theres someone else that has seramas and is closer? that way they wouldnt have such a bad trip

If you guys want to wait til May we set the date for the Chicken party for May 18th here at my house in Turlock. Hopefully people can make previous arrangements & we can all trade, buy, sell eggs chicks, etc while we are here having fun together.
We invited Walt when we saw him at the Fresno show yesterday &he said he would make a note of the date & we met some new people from other places too.
Teresa ended up not going but Julie & I had fun at our table. It was so nice to be able to sit......LOL
I picked up another Brown Leghorn from the Paso Robles breeder (Deborah Kunic) for myself & a pullet for Wendy too. She said they are great & from really good bloodlines Gene Helton. I know nothing about Leghorn lines so I guess I will learn. Julie said that Deborah show birds did well at the show.
Walt gave Julie & I an education on the differences of Australorps & Orpingtons. So nice having an educated resource to help point things out. I was studying the SOP text trying to decipher when I should have been looking at the pictures.....LOL. I have had both but am loving the Orpingtons more & more. I just guess I love big fluffy bums & they are great layers for me to.
The attendance at the show seemed smaller to Julie & I but I missed last year & now they split the 4Hers to another building so I suppose that makes a big difference.

It will all depend on how cold they got. You should know by days 7-10.
It seems we have some nicely knowlagable new to the thread people chiming in the last week.

I just want to take a moment to say how welcome it is!

The only thing that makes a conversation more interesting then smart people agreeing with you is smart people disagreeing with you! :D
