California - Northern

I started a thread on the main forum but didn't get any replies. So before I turn him over to animal control, I'll give this one last shot.

FREE to our friends at BYC! 6 mo old Easter Egger Rooster. In San Francisco, CA!

Bought from Half Moon Bay Feed, raised from a chick. It's a little flighty because it's been picked on by our chickens. He does eat out of my hand, but doesn't like being handled. May consider trading for a hen. Let me know what you have.

He is very nice looking!

Is there a feed store that will take him near you?

Thanks for thinking of us! If I lived closer to you I would snatch him up in a heartbeat.

Ok I have a few pips in shells. I hear chirping.
Since I have duck eggs going on due March 1, i don't lower the temp right?
Humidity is at 60%.
I do have a question on temp:
I have trusted my Brinsea Advance EX for the temp.
BUT I found an old Brinsea Spot Check (about 10+ years old) didn't realize I had one.
The spot check kind of had the temps all over the place. It varied a bit , but I thought that with a fan incubator the temp would be the same throughout.
LIke some spots were in the high 98's and higher up 100.4 . I'm trusting my new incubator more than this old spot check, but was surprised.

well now this is new: a PURPLE-colored egg today, and absolutely no idea who might have laid it -- coming from a pen with marans, silver-pencilled rocks, and amelias. best guess is that one of the older marans is just finally getting started laying again (after a long winter hiatus), and her color is off -- but truly mystified!

All of those temps are within safe incubation!

Relax, your hatch is going very well.

Duck eggs will be fine--I would raise the humidity to 70 until they hatch and then drop it back down.

Ok, thank you Ron.
I had 5 eggs I through out for no development and an early quitter.
But I think I know why: I separated my rooster because he was being rough .I thought him in with his 10 girls every 3 days or so would still be enough. Then I rotated him to another pen the other days. I'm thinking when he was with him he had favorites as well. I think he didn't get his job done like he should have. And the fact that when I did rotate him, he had other hens to keep happy.
Going to separate him with my best girls only and see what happens next time.

What a beautiful bunch of eggs! Too bad she doesn't lay that purple color all of the time! So pretty!!
