Someone a while back mentioned a few day process they use prior to loading into the incubator? I usually allow room temps then load but my shipped hatched rates are phooey . Anyone care to give me their two cents is welcome.

Since they came from Chiquita they should be perfect!

The trick with shipped eggs it to not turn them for up to 7 days. That includes not candling them. They need to go upright in the incubator when they reach room temperature. I put mine in cut down egg cartons or on the turner with the turner turned off. The extra day of resting will lower the hatch rate of the oldest eggs.

Candle them first to make sure there are no little cracks in the eggs. Also check the condition of the air cell. The worse the condition of the air cell the longer you will want to leave the turner off.

Hi Karen! I marked the 18th on my calendar! I'm so excited! Please say hi to Denny for me! My craft room is at a stand still as I have torn something in my shoulder! I think my warranty has expired! Aaron should be home this weekend so we should be able to make a bit of progress!

I know where you can get some chicks!    I have 50 more in the cabinet hatcher including 10 from my new Langshans.  It never gets old for me!  Now to get rid of my quail so I have 2 more pens for grow outs!

Ooooooooo! That is tempting! I have to figure out what I want....I can only have 5. The girls I have were hatchery chicks so I would love to get some variety since I watch them out my kitchen window... just have to figure out how to accomplish getting different varieties at about the same age...so far I have a barred rock on my list and a blue Wheaton Ameracauna ...and I love my buff orpington so maybe a true buff or Australorp or a Rhode island....but your new trio is so beautiful! Just so many beautiful birds and not enough yard space! I NEED TO DECIDE!

Can someone please let me know about these:

Questions on the Genesis Hovabator:
I see the digital thermostat and humidity reading in the pic.
Does it ACTUALLY add water with a pump like the Brinsea. I'm assuming not, but a girl can wish, right?
Does it have that pain in the read twist temp nob like the old hovabators. I hated that thing. the slightest touch and I got temp spikes.
Lastly: Is it plastic or styrofoam? The pic looks like plastic, i know the original ones are styrofoam.

On the dickey:
The humidity system in the 5 gallon bucket: Does that add as needed as well?

According to an article I read you are supposed to allow the eggs to "rest" big end down for 24 hrs before setting them. According to whomever wrote the article it is supposed to allow time for the airsac to settle properly and boosts your hatch rate with shipped eggs.

You do have to add water to the genesis. It is styrofoam. It has a digital temperature control on the top that is adjusted by pushing an up and down button.

You still need to make sure the temperatures are correct with a good thermometer.

The dickey has a humidity system that uses a bucket. I think it is extra and gravity fed.
