So sorry for all your trouble Nikki.......................

I want to hatch some more OEs but didn't want them in with the AMs & BCM plus group of eggs. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to know who's who. Most of my OEs look more AM than Marans but one looks like a Blue Marans.
Anyway I have one of the old Hovabators before they had the digital temp/hygrometer in them & I ( my husband that is) have been trying to stabilize the temp on it. The trouble being I loaned it out twice to 2 different people starting out & now am trying to re use it myself. It works well for me last time I used it but SOMEONE has messed with the switches. I have a thermometer/Hygrometer sitting in there and a regular thermometer from Tractor Supply. The digital was reading high so my husband brought in his expensive Fluke meter to double check it. He really trusts it & it says the temp is way to high so he has been making adjustments according to the manual. I want to put all my F1 & F2 OEs
in there so I will know that they are all crosses for colored eggs. We are getting closer so maybe later today I can set eggs. My patience is waning.........LOL

Ive never had this much trouble i got 25 LF chicks last year and lost 3 in several weeks. could the fact that im up in the mountans with high elevation be a factor?

You can buy extra eggs from him to add to your shipment @ $4.00 and egg. And he does send extras. That is what I had him do for me. He does have auctions for 3 different colors of Phoenix. His Ebay prices are much better than ordering from his website. His birds are worth the risk. Super quality! He is so nice and helpful too :D
Just when I had almost talked myself out of it, you had to go and throw quality into the mix. His birds do look nice.

I'm sure you must have seen the pictures I have posted here on the Norcal thread of my d'Anvers from BBB "Aubrey" But just in case you need some more convincing here they are again

His Phoenix are gorgeous too! I am thinking of getting some of those too.

They seem okay. kathy do u have any ideas on how i can get the spraddle leg chick to eat? Hes drinking but not eating

Quote: I need to put one together, and it's not as easy as tubing larger birds, plus it requires that one get a small enough tube *and* baby bird food. It will take me awhile, but I will do it.

In the meantime one could get some baby bird food and make a very runny slurry, put it in a small container and then lift that container to the chick's beak rather than pushing the chicks head down to it. Does that make sense? I have a really hard time writing what I mean these days. Seems that weak chicks do better when standing and the food is listed to them to sip. One could also force feed small crickets, but only if the chick has been drinking force feeding.

"A sick or debilitated bird should always have its hydration corrected prior to attempting to initiate oral gavage-feeding."

You could get some small crickets or very small mealworms and force feed him a few. That just might perk his interest. Other things I've heard of are putting crumbles on foil and that the reflective surface encourages them to peck. You could also try putting water in the crumbles or scrambled eggs.
