California - Northern

Hmm two were the size of the day 18 the other was the size of the day 14. i thought it was a bit high too but didnt focus on it to much. the 3rd pic on here shows kinda the gooey membrane but when i cracked it the membrane was like glued to the shell and was really mucusy and gooey

The first two died around lock down. The last one died very late and almost made it. That one was probably like you though, the day at 90 degrees.

Incubate at 100.5 next time on your thermometer.

Keep an eye out for a craigs list incubator. A digital one if possible. The type of incubator you are using is very hard to keep stable.

They are American Blues. I also have two 12 week old Chinchillas and an American Blue Buck.

Here a picture of my two blue girls.

My kids had Silver Martens & Netherland Dwarfs. I raised meat breeds New Zealands & Californias. I think if I ever did a few again it would be Californias
They were good growers & I liked the contrast. I tried several breeds though. I have had a life of trying many different animals & breeds & have loved doing it......LOL I thought rabbits were pretty easy compared to some of the others.

Well, the Pita Pinta/Cream Legbar mixes are good hatchers! 4 have hatched, 3 have pips, and only 1 shows no action yet. The brown Pita Pinta or PP mix eggs only have 1 pip in 7 eggs. The Langshan eggs show no activity yet. Day 21 is at 11 PM tonight so there is still time for those lazy chicks!

The ones that have already hatched are a noisy bunch and hopefully their cheeps will encourage the others to come out and play!

I woke up to 4 UofA Blues hatched. It looks like on black, two splash and one blue. I have a lot of pips!

Remember how I wanted a broodie? Well.... Somebody heard me and within a day, I had a broodie! :lau I also have insane MF leghorns that don't do what they are supposed to do. I believe this one has gone broody. Or is trying to anyway. She has completed 2 whole days in this nest. The video is of me risking my limbs to sneak in an egg and offer fresh shavings for nesting. I do have to figure out a better spot for her but that will take a couple days of fixing.
Boy she's not messing around!! My Seramas peck me but what can they do lol.

Way cute!!! Not $900 worth of cute though.....

I agree with you on that! Although, once you've added up the cost of materials plus the time to construct it, $900 doesn't sound that bad! DH and I were looking at the road trip sheds at our Costco right now. They are really nice! The largest one is 12 x 8 and costs $1800 delivered & set up. It would sure hold lots of chickens or a 22 yr old boomerang son!

I used to raise and show Netherland Dwarfs as a kid. At that time I had over 30 rabbits. Rabbit math is just as bad as chicken math.

I'll say.........darling if money was no object but building it yourselves with salvage parts would cut that way back.

I tend to be an early riser anyway but did get sleepy a little earlier last night. I had had a tiring day. We had a garden club luncheon for one of the garden clubs I belong to & Cari & I always decorate & set a table for 8. She did honey bees & I did a big birdhouse/feeder. Its a lot of fun but a lot of work & I poop out easier than I did years back. We have been doing this annually for years. One of my "chicken lovin" friends from Madera came up & attended. By the time it was over we cleaned up & got back home I was wiped out.....LOL. Oli always goes with us & this time 3 of her friends went too. Maybe you & Monet might like to go sometime.
Our big coop is made mostly with repurposed parts. The frame of the run is a big pipe swing set that DH put together for the kids. Most of the wood we used on the coop was left over set pieces from a homeschool theater group that we ran for 7 years. We used siding on the outside that was given to us by DH's former boss. We had to buy a few 2 x 4's and the hardware. Of course, it looks like a coop built with misc salvaged materials. I think that I need to paint it and fix a few parts that don't look very good. Last year we built a double decker quail pen that I intend to use for chicks once the quail are gone. It doesn't look too bad and definitely an improvement over our coop. The coop that we are currently building is our best yet! We painted it yesterday and put lino on the floor. I kept looking at our old coop yesterday and thinking about how to spruce it up! The chickens like it fine and it is functional but not cute!

Let me know next time you have one of those luncheons! We would like to come if it works out for us!

Thanks!!  I did it, and it sucked.  I guess I've been lucky up until now though.  Thanks for all the support guys.  :hugs

Ha..   yep  I guess she did not read the memo that Leghorns don't go broody.

It never stops sucking but it does get easier.

My roosters wake me up, doesn't matter what time it is, if they're crowing, I'm up, lol.

Did the time change mess up your internal clock, too?
