One of mine too. It has a lot of white bloom over the dark. It looks pinkish/purpleish.

These Orp chicks are making me crazy!!  Maybe I'm just not meant to have any Orps.  So I only got 3/8 to hatch.  Then I had the one with the freakish leg that I had to cull.  #2 is the one that tried to hatch foot first, and has curled toes (and wears the little shoes),  Now:  I go to check on the chick after getting home from work, and #3 is laying upside down in the water dish.  I thought it was dead -it looked dead.  So I reached in and picked it up.  When I saw that it was breathing (barely) I put it under my shirt (in my arm-pit -- it was the warmest place I could think of at the time)  and went in the house to figure out what to do.  While I was walking around it started peeping.  So I put a clean stoneware pan in the (oven to heat it up), and got some canning jars and put hot water in them.  Now she seem just fine (just a little tired), and is sitting in a warm pan, cuddled up with jars on the book shelf.  :th

that sounds like you've got a mini fuster cluck going on!

I still have all of them (the girls). They are taking a little vacation at my parent's house until this "city code enforcement issue" is taken care of. I had people over when I had craigslist ads up (to sell some of my hens

) I was at work when some of the people came, and I didn't want my hubby to sell them on accident. They'll come home when all this gets over with. I can't wait to see how they do with the heat this summer.

cool post pictures when you can. I am glad there is more Emp's in the Golden State now :)

I tried the Glad storage container. Had a hard time fitting it in the genesis with the turner. When I put it on it's side it rolled and spilled out a few times. Have you had that problem? And do you just put in 1 for incubation and 2 of those for hatching?

I am using two to get humidity to 35%. I fill all the channels to get humidity up for hatching.

I shoot for 65 to 70 percent.

The storage containers fit like this:

There is a notch cut in the top of the lid. The cup is filled about half way and the lid is snapped on. The container goes in on it's side. Cut the opening like the one on the right and it will help hold it still. Even the one on the left does not spill.

Here is a picture from the top so that you can see how it fits next to the turner:

When I had all those eggs incubating, I had 4 eggs down next to the containers that I hand turned.

I hope the pictures help!
