California - Northern

LOL on the testicle talk. when I processed my boys last weekend I was secretly pleased to see that my hybrid from my own eggs was uhherm twice as well endowed as those fancy pants SPRs. Actually he had begun to be a pain. He had gotten amorous and was a chaser. None of the girls wanted anything to do with him..even Buckbeak and she is EASY!

I am sure that no one remembers this but last spring I asked you all about my girl Dotty who had developed a bald spot from the base of her neck all the way down her breast. Well she is doing it again. She plucks them. I sat under the Spirea and took these pictures of her. One of her caught in the act. What is the deal? She has never shown any sign of going broody.
She wouldn't come out so I had to join her

If it's like last year she will end up with an ugly landing strip about 1.5 inches wide and it won't go away until her feathers grow back after her mid fall molt.

Caught in the act. Her head is upside down and sideways...

Been there, done that... I've also made the same suggestion (OvaScope) and had people freak out over the price, yet they're willing to pay over $20 for a shipped pea egg... makes no sense to me.

Oh man If I could find the nests I would be sitting on a gold mine here but the peas are crafty they hide themselves and just appear with babies. I did catch some last year to give to friend of mine...maybe I should be charging.

Thank you for reading my long rambling post! I have two more hatches going in my cabinet. I think that I will try it both ways and see which one works the best.
I have always said that if money were no object I would rather have several really good small incubators with humidity modules so I could hatch smaller batches of single breeds. I know my BCM hatch differently & have also had early hatchers all in the same big incubator.

So far, the New Heritage Dels have bee very Textbook. They hatched on time and all of them were out in 24 hours.

Healthy little buggers too!

We need a report from @capayvalleychick
I loved hatching the Heritage Dels. They pipped, zipped & were out before you knew it. Never seen any faster except the Cotournix quail....now they are like popcorn.

Hi! I thought modesto was canceled? Hrm.. can I talk dh into it....

My local contact who is a county 4h participator teels me they have over 800 entries.

I bet the look on his face was priceless!

These aren't my first chicks in my cabinet but I've been using it to incubate for the first 14 days or so and then putting the eggs in my Genesis Hovabator for the last week. I have to manually turn the eggs in my cabinet and the humidity in there is at around 50%. Maybe lack of turning and too high humidity. Of course almost all of the Pita Pinta and PP/CL mix eggs hatch with no problem. Bresse eggs also hatch easily. That's making me wonder if the conditions need to be different for the Langshans. I'm going to add to what my breeders are being fed and also experiment with lowering the humidity for the first 18 days and maybe upping it for hatch. I will figure this out!
Now if we all had money for as many Octagon 20s that we could use.....LOL

A show in Modesto? The JR show?
Rebecca it is the Youth Show at the Ag Pavillion at MJC West campus. Its from 7 a.m. to 4. Jules is coming up from Madera to go with me.

This part right here? Turned my insides to jelly, I am sooooo laughing! Oh my goodness. Tears of laughter!

She is a funny gal......LOL
Hi All,
I'm plugging it in, opening the lid, unplugging it. It's so unstable. It's like the heater stays on even when the light says it is off. Technical help anyone?
Your new Genesis?

I like the soft bat. Is that so that I can club people over the head with CG information? I can see why Mario would have had trouble what does a "family friendly" p@@@@@ pic look like anyway???

She just told me that. Did you name her Asparagus? Somehow that name has your ring to it :) Will she be mad at me when I tell her we are going to pass? I hope not
okay tommysgirl I need to talk to you about some California Grays................

Even after having this breed for several years, I'm still amazed at the variety of colors and patterns that pop out. I'm like a little kid on hatch day with my face plastered to the incubator.

Aren't we all?????......LOL
Future bareroot tree pallet coop build
Yeah for you. I love, love, love repurposing things. Especially if it's a good deal.

My grocery store eggs did fine. I would think they would be ok, if they aren't too old. When you get shipped eggs they can get way colder than regular fridge temps.
thank you lizanne. i had a couple of eggs that were from nice hens, realized i need to start collecting for the next hatch. thought i'd ask if they'd work. :)
