~~ I woke from a dead sleep and ran buck naked out to see what was happening....................Now Shantih, you do know there are people that would pay to see that rescue run......LOL Ever hear of Homes Funniest Movies????????????/ LOLWow! Much drama here this morning. Something came in the big dog door and attacked my seremas on the covered porch .
Everyone is fine but that is scary. One of the new girls screams like a baby. I woke from a dead sleep and ran buck naked out to see what was happening. Mario said the fox tried on the ducks tonight too and tried to tip the quail cage over. It has avoided the trap might need other means.![]()
We used to call & ask but always got the same answer.........shoot them if they are after your stock....that was loose dogs though.
Congratulations. Hatching baby chicks is like nothing else. Quite the thrill.................. My brooders are 2 foot by 4 foot & have eco glows in them now but before I broke down & bought the eco glows I had incandescent light bulbs in there for the heat source. I just laid a thermometer on the floor under the light bulb to determine the temp & changed the light bulb according to need by age of chick. Right from the incubator my goal was 95 degrees. After that 5 degrees less each week. As long as you have room for them to get away from the heat source if they are too warm they should be okay. It worked very well for me but I had an assortment of wattage light bulbs & and they are getting harder to find now. I had anywhere from a few to many in one brooder. So I'm getting baby chicks! 6 Straight Run Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, and 1 Cream Legbar. Woohoo!
I want to set up the brooder in the garage, but it gets really cold outside at night, and I'm afraid the garage would be too cold for them, even with a heat lamp. Of course, by the time I get them it will be the first or second week of April. Should they be fine to have their brooder in the garage by then? How do I make sure they stay warm enough at night?
Also, what size brooder do I need for 7 chicks? Been about a year since I've brooded babies![]()
