Ok...I took the plunge and came home with 4 Cornish crosses from the feed store. They are most definitley fat and lazy. I have them in the brooder for now and will move them out in a bout a week after I get something set up for them. Any guesses on age?

They look about a week old. I love how fat and lazy they are. So cute!!

Thanks! If you are on the hatchalong thread you may have already seen these but this is what Tom and I spent yesterday afternoon doing. We still have the Eastern and Southern walls to do but doesn't this look like the sort of place you might like to raise a family??

Ol flowerpot Norma has been sitting in the nest box for hours on end but then getting bored mid afternoon and joining the flock. She also has plucked some breast feathers so with any luck she will soon decide that the only thing that will make her happy is to become a mama...then I hope the fever will spread through the coops.

The other day Jamie Lee Curtis decided to audition for the roll of hood ornament

Very Nice!

Ok, i need help with shade tarps.
I'm looking for something that will give nice shade, but be breathable.
i've seen some online but not sure if they'll make the area hotter than it is already.
Anyone use any shade cloths or shade tarps?

I had a cheap awning last year. You could probably use fabric ground cover - the kind you roll out to prevent weeds. It's strong, breathable, and they have it in different colors.

I do. Bought the green shade cloth at Home Depot and my husband cut it into panels and attached it to metal rods so it hangs nice and I can roll it up or down easily. It breaths but keeps the rain from blowing into my pens. I then used foundation stakes to hold it out from the sides of the pens for airflow.
