California - Northern

For those that asked what I will be selling: 1pr Brown Chinese geese, White Runner ducks, pairs and trio's of LF New Hampshires,..no single females. One Wheaten Ko Shamo bantam pair (very rare and will be APA recognized in April), White Leghorn Bantams and possibly a pair of East Indie ducks.

I'm not placing an ad for a week or so and I hardly ever sell birds. PM me if you have any interest before the ad goes out.

Walt

I was also thinking, what a wonderful opportunity to those that are wanting to show birds! I have seen Walt's Runner ducks, East Indies and New Hampshires and they are beautiful!

Chrissy - I too hoped that my chickens would eat black widows, but nope. One night, while closing up last summer, I saw a HUGE female black widow at beak level (from their roosts) to them inside their coop. I had to get a BIG old stick to get her out and smash her. I can deal with snakes, but I hate spiders!

That is funny and cute too! Only 12 runs...........spoken like a 14 year old with NO concept of what things cost.

I know

We told him 2 color choices. End of story. Until we are no longer renting, two makes sense because he can have 2 coops with one divided run. He's somewhat satisfied since we let him pick which two colors.

I have to share these here too. Hope you don't mind. Here are the Bresse I got from chiqita. They are about 4 1/2 months old now. They are filling out really nicely. They are plump little things. I can't remember if the Bresse get a lot of breast or thigh meat. I'm thinking it's breast meat.
They are beautiful! All mine turned out to be cockerels :(

It is time to worm them then.

@casportpony

Kathy has links to using Horse Paste wormers in her signature file. Those are cheap and easy to find at most feed stores.
Anybody ever use the RoosterBooster brand wormer? Does it work? Is there a wormer that doesn't require withholding the eggs from eating? I think my 1 yr olds are due for it. What about Oxine AH? Does that help reduce the repopulation of worms if it is in the drinking water?

The chart says worminater is 1 day and prohibit is 5 days.

Ivermectin has no withdrawl but there are reports of resistance to it.

I know, right? I even threatened them with the stew pot. No dice.
How do they expect me to get rid of banana slugs??? oh, wait... ducks. I need Call ducks. They're an important and necessary part of gardening. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I've seen Lanae's Araucanas - in fact, that's where I got my starter birds. She has really worked hard and developed some real beauties. But wow - they're a tough breed. I love 'em because of their quirky personalities - they're really comical!

Hi all,
Just cause I'm thinking my son is adorable right now.

He's 14 and had his first attack of love at first sight and is over the moon about the D'uccle chickens.

He wants a run with 5 of each available color
lau.gif
He says, "Mom, that's only 12 runs."

He wants to learn how to show them and become a reputable breeder of exhibition quality stock.

Mind you, he just saw them on Thursday.

I showed him BYC D'uccle thread.
He got his own account and is the "Coopcomander."

Is he cute or what? A spin on the Duck Commander show in case you didn't get it.

I'm soooooo laughing to myself. A week ago chickens were stupid!

Since he really wants to do this, he has spent today retrofitting an old rabbit hutch and is now cutting down some of the bamboo to make a good spot for his first D'uccles.

We offered to help him get started. Said "Would you like your 8th grade graduation gift to be for us to get you set up in D'uccles with some good stock?" He is delighted with that. I am too.

Well I better go before I get caught. I'll have to have him come on and follow this thread. Another day when he can't see me talking about him

Cool! I think it's really great that he's so interested. What a great age to get started. Give him a few years and he'll have his own championship line.

CackleJoy, he has been smitten with an adorable breed. He should have good luck selling to 4-Her's, they make wonderful showmanship birds for the younger set and who doesn't like them.

Yours must be sissy chickens!

Several years ago I used a stick to move a Garden Spider, which is nearly as big as a black widow, to the chickens and they had a great time eating it!

Black Australorps of course.

Oh how sweet :) My son is 13 and isn't very into the chickens. But he did see some Polish and went "Wow, now THOSE are cool. We need some of those!"

They are beautiful! All mine turned out to be cockerels

Oh no!!! Well you're close to me, so when these start laying and you need eggs let me know. Did they taste good?

I wonder what does like to eat black widows?
