I was lucky enough to get a couple of pullets from Chicke too and I agree 100% on "delightful & gracious" part! My girls ar definitley a wonderful part of my flock and give be gorgeous blue and blue-green eggs/ They are my grand kids favorites to eat.... Your pullets look like they will grow into beautiful young ladies too!
Hi Audio51, yes! isn't Candy simply lovely? Awww, so nice that our chicks are related.. My pullets are now going through the stage which I adore of being out of proportion with big feet, pinning feathers, and chick down still holding onto the tips of the brand new feathers, and always so inquisitive about everything that is new; which is just about everything : ) If you have any photos of yours, it would be so nice to see them.

Mine were older when I got them so I missed that stage, They were very near the POL. These are the girls. I have the one in front on the first picture. She is my favorite, but I love them both! She is younger and very friendly

I know, right? I even threatened them with the stew pot. No dice.
Yours must be sissy chickens!

Several years ago I used a stick to move a Garden Spider, which is nearly as big as a black widow, to the chickens and they had a great time eating it!

Black Australorps of course.

Hah! I need to send my chickens back to remedial velociraptor school. They're total wimps.

Welcome Coopcommander! Glad you're here! Best of luck finding the perfect birds.

I read on a FB post someone said Mallow weed will stop your hens from laying.
Looked it up and uc davis said it will affect the quality of a hens eggs, not sure what that means.
But I have TONS of it!

Anyone heard of it before?

Wow - I've got that everywhere. Never knew what it was.

Well that's very possible Ron. I have sissy dogs too! I'm wondering if perhaps the garden spiders are tastier? Mine tried the black widow when I showed them it with a stick. But after the trying, they shook their head and wouldn't finish it. Kinda like telling your kids broccoli tastes good. Hmmm… wondering if anyone has had their birds eat a black widow.

Me either. I don't' know how bad it is. I'm curious as to what Davis says as far as it affecting the quality of the eggs though. It looks like they don't recommend it for chickens, but how bad it is remains to be determined for me. I will be weed eating this week though

Does anyone in some subregion of sacramento have incubator services? I haven't managed to save up for a brinsea yet and these ebay eggs are screaming my name...
Our local JS West feed store hatches for people (so I hear, anyway). You might check with your local feed stores and see if any of them will let you add your eggs to their bators.

Ohh, wow! they are beautiful! They look so cozy, cuddly and sweet with their muffs and beards; but, at the same time so elegant and dignified..I love your photos, and thank you so much for posting! Yes, mine are only a bit over 5 wks. old and in the middle of their whimsical stage which I love. When they run around, play, stumble on their big feet; not knowing what to so with the rest of their body, and rush about with no idea where they are trying to reach...so much joy they give..
