Congrats!

I leave mine in & let them run around in there. I know some think it may harm the others but I feel the opposite. It seems to stimulate the others to come out & play. I have watched them run over to a pipping chick &talk to them..

I can tell you it won't stop your hens from laying. Mine eat it all the time!

I can't even tell you if they eat it in my yard. I only have a handful of free loading free rangers & even if they do eat it they can't make a dent in the amount that grows in my yard. Vava (my grand mother) called it Malvish so I have been familiar with it all my life & used to eat the young kernels (seeds) inside the rounds (seed pods) that form on it after the flowers. It is everywhere here and anyone working in the yard (anybody I can get that is) that is not experienced thinks the young plants are more Hollycocks coming up & don't pull them so I go behind & yank some of them out.

I read on a FB post someone said Mallow weed will stop your hens from laying.
Looked it up and uc davis said it will affect the quality of a hens eggs, not sure what that means.
I read a study that said that mallow can cause red inside eggs. I have it all over. Sometimes the chickens eat it. I've never had any problems related to it.

Pat! I meant to say, welcome back! Best wishes for your husband's recovery.

Does anyone in some subregion of sacramento have incubator services?
In addition to Ron in Woodland, there is Yellow Rose Ranch in Sac: https://www.facebook.com/yellowroseranch

Oh, don't do that to me!! We have a limit of 10 hens here in Anderson - I have 6 now & am keeping 2 from a group I'm getting on April 7th. If I get more than 2 on the 29th I'd have to sell the extras after they're old enough! I just wanted to make sure they won't be lonely with just two of them. This is, IF I get any on the 29th. Only if I find something that interests me, and they have to be sexed, so we'll see. I just love exotic looking birds.

I need to live on acreage so I can have 50 chickens. Lol!

LOL!!! Well....if we can't enable each other, who can we enable?

You've got a good point!

At what age can a pullet be put with an existing flock of adult chickens?
It depends on the temperament of the flock and the size of the pullet.

A rule of thumb is 3/4 the size of the other pullets. The new pullet has to look like a chicken and not food to the existing flock.

Sometimes a good rooster will help--he will often keep the new one from being attacked.

I have six of Candy's birds and love them...so friendly and the eggs are beautiful! Congrats on your new ones :)
