Is there any way to stop the chicks from flying up onto the waterer and pooping in it? The oldest chicks likes to use her wings and I constantly find her on top of the waterer, and consequently pooping in it.

As others said make so they cant land. And give her something else tall to fly to. How are the marans doing?
I woke up this morning to one chick hatched in my Genesis.  I set the Langshan eggs a day earlier than the rest because they have been about 24 hours behind my Pita Pintas in hatching.  So, I assumed that this first egg to hatch was a Langshan.  It was pipped last night but when I checked this morning, a totally yellow chick had hatched.  My Langshans are black and the chicks are black with yellow.  I'm thinking that this is a Bresse chick and that not all of the eggs that I have been bringing home from the farm are Langshan eggs.

Lol my jubilees eggs did that a lot.

I took 5 trays out of the incubator today :(. It was clear everything had been overheated.

This is probably the wrong group to ask, because they just go get eggs to hatch for their broodies, but...... is it possible that a broodie will never come out of it if they don't hatch or have a baby chick to mother? Is it possible that they could stay broodie indefinitely?
Wouldn't they die and effectively end their broodiness?

Wow that sounded snarky! It's actually a question! I've never had one stay broody so I don't know.

Hello everyone i have not been on here in a long time,

just had a question for anyone who might be able to help, if you have more then 20 hens, where can you find feed in bulk, buying 50 lbs and 75 lbs bags is becoming expensive.

thanks for the help

I am trying to find the one on Amazon that includes all the rails, but not finding it. I don't think I would ever hatch quail anyway, but if I could the the rails included, why not! I know the online retailers change the price based on where you live, so I think it's about $5 more for me.

I bought my first Hovabator Genesis at Nasco. It was a few years ago & wasn't the digital one yet & didn't come with the turner but the turners are at Tractor supply right now for $39.99 & the price was very competitive at the time. Maybe they have the newer ones now. I bought an old little giant for $5 at a yard sale. It had a turner with no rails in it but the motor was good & I had a newer one that had a bad motor 2 screws and a little finangling & I have a like new turner. I am using it for hatching eggs that are waiting in line for an empty incubator.....LOL

I was having mine customed mixed at a local feed & seed mill for sometime & it was cheaper & you got to choose your own mix. The kick was to get a good price the price break was at 3000 pounds so I was sharing with others & splitting the order. Another problem was there was no delivery so you had to pick it up & it had to be paid for & picked up all at the same time. Getting everyone co-ordinated to do that becomes problematic when you have people coming from different areas with different schedules....................... Gees.....there are some advantages to being old & retired I guess.....LOL

Yeah for the new incubator and cute dog/chick pics!!!  I really like my Genesis 1588.  I am doing a test hatch on the my new hovabator one with the wafer heater with installed fan.  I got it off CL.  It was brand new with turner and chick supplies.  It cost me $80 so the price was good.  But I'm so spoiled with my Genesis and the digital readout.  This other one vibrates like crazy and I had to fiddle with the temperature adjustment.  I never could get it to read 100 so it's running at 99 degrees.  I put some of my PP/CL eggs in there because they are my strongest hatchers.  Tonight it will be day 20 so there should be some action in there soon.

I was just telling Karen that I'm going to fire up the old still-air with the wafer. I have 2 of the Genesis & they have spoiled me completely too. And of course, they are full. But, my girls are laying lots of lovely eggs right now & I don't really want to eat them :). I will do like you though & put my Delawares & Coros in there as they are my best hatchers. Once I get it all lined out, others will probably for sure, be added.
