Resting shipped eggs in the incubator with the big end up for 2 to 5 days with the turner off and then turn it on has been dropped per a thread on BYC. I still think it helps or at least is seems to give the poor shipped chick a better chance of hatching. Someone took it personally. I try to be as diplomatic as possible but it did not work this time.

A typo in a PM even made the person mad.

Oh well.

I thought everyone did that? I always incubate with the turner off for three days before turning it on. In the Rcom I do it the same way as well. shipped or not shipped.

I think something else must be going on. My message is to work on the top three things that cause problems, temperature, humidity and ventilation. Take care of those three and you will have great hatches.

Well, I took your advise. Maybe waited too long but the turner went on day 6. Hoping no repercussions from that! I wanted to candle and turn it on all the same day and I had them stacked. Someday I'll learn not to over fill the bator but this time it worked out fine. I still have 10 empty spaces. Do I recall that turning is most important from day 7 +?

I was told that will kill the chicks and cause mal positions. I have not seen that myself.

Haha, Jason I was feeling the same way ! I have two Ancona hens and my girls love them. I think they're more flighty than the pita pinta and looks like they pita have more white? Placerville isn't that far ... Let me know if you two have chicks ;-)

Lol! I think you'll always find someone who wants to argue. So sad that someone could treat nice people like Ron that way!
How do you take offense when someone nicely offers advice? I think some people enjoy drama, and that's sad.
