First wear a mask!

Silkie said DE worked for feather lice so you could try that for them.

For dusting, the best method I have seen and people like was the shake and bake method. Put dust into a small garbage bag, put the chicken in up to the neck and shake. Keep it sealed enough that the dust does not get into the eyes and mouth of the chicken.

The liquid spray is one under each wing and one near but not on the vent. I would spray where you see the lice too.

The whole flock needs to be treated and the coops need to be cleaned and treated. If one has it the the others are assumed to have bugs too.

Ok so I have LF and Seramas, also chicks under a month old and also chicks that are feathered out. I'm assuming all of them have the lice. I looked under the chick's wings and they definitely have the lice crawling around...they looked like fleas to me. Gross!!!! What would you recommend with chicks? How much of the spray would you use on them? Regarding treating the coop, does that mean spraying all the wood surfaces with the Seven spray and replacing bedding?

I replace or soak bedding and spray the heck out of the coop when no one is in it. I use permethrin spray on the coop so I can be libreal In spraying every crevice. I would shake and bake the chicks id shake and bake the chicks as a first resort and give 1 drop if that does not work.

Awwwww! They are beyond cute, and so pretty!!!

How are your chicks doing?

She's d
She's doing great! Laid every day save maybe two that she's been here. She prefers her 5gal plant bucket and wood shavings to her little roost I made her. We've been calling her Honey although she almost became Buffy the bug slayer.
I'm so glad! I like Buffy the bug slayer!

Is Ellie still going in and sitting in the nesting box like she wants to lay?

Do this! Get concentrated permectrin from the feed store and mix it into a spray bottle. Get seven from walmart and do the shake and bake. Repeat after a week for the shake and bake and treat the coops every two weeks.

We are moving into a season where lice will be easier to control.

set up a kids sand box for dust bathing with BBQ ash, DE and sand. It all helps.

Good job finding the lice.

Remember the IT chicks? Well, they're still in the office. I didn't want to bring the incubator back home over my bumpy dirt road.
And because we're computer geeks, we set up a webcam feed to stream to the local kindergarten. The kindergarteners already stopped by to see the eggs in person. There was much discussion on what was going to hatch out of the eggs. Popular choices were chicks, ducks, puppies or pizza.
My money's on the pizza. All the way.

They're hatching now - the guys are naming them - the first ones out are Pizza and Pie.

Does anyone have seasonal broodies? Sounds silly, I know, but I have this one hen who goes broody every year, the same month without fail. Right before the fair.

She's a ridiculous broody.
