Does he have a tail hiding there somewhere? He is beautiful where-ever he came from.

I have to look hard at my sizzle girl sometimes to see if she is standing upright or leaning down...translation...both of her ends sometimes look the same

Oh and my silkie girl laid her first egg since going broody and being moved. I showed it to Godiva to shame her enorumous fluffy butt. It is small but nearly the same size as the egg laid by my largest hen.

So a week with the splint on, then a week with it off? I have Nutri Drench...will that work? If not I can get some Poly Vi Sol w/o iron.
Nutri drench is fine and likely better for long term use.

I hope it works!

a week or so with it on then take it off but re evaluate on each day to see if she needs to have it put back on. Better to leave it too long than not long enough. How old is she? The older they are at the time of splinting the longer you will need to splint them. Check the B vitamins in NutriDrench if it has them, use that.

Quote: Thanks, Ron!

Quote: She is 2 days old. She was in with the other 11 I hatched for my friend and the other Mottled chick that hatched the day before so I didn't notice it until late yesterday. I tried the zip tie splint and she just rolled over on her back. Then I tried a bit of string between 2 zip ties about 3 times and she got it off all 2 times. The electical tape is working very well and even allow me to adjust it without any problem. I just looked at the Nutri Drench and there is no Vit B in it. It contains Lysine, Methionine, Calcium, Vit A, D-3 and E. I have something called "Total Energy" that contains folic acid, B2, B3, B4, B5 and B12. (no iron) . l also have Avitrol avian vitamins which contains Vit A,D3, E, C, B1, B2, B6, B12, K, Pantothenic Acid, Niacinomide and Choline.(no iron)

the Avitrol sounds good.

Not too much though.

hello all -- i've completely lost all ability to keep up with this list, here at the end of the semester -- too much going on & not enough time on-line! but i have a quick query to make, as i've made a somewhat disturbing discovery this afternoon -- go home early enough to let some of the chickens out of their pens, including my small pen of five three-month olds growing out (three isbar, two marans; all girls except one isbar), and noticed that two of them are limping -- looked closer and both have whole toes *missing*. they do not look red or raw, so this didn't happen super-recently (how did i not notice sooner? i'm starting to see the downsides of having more chickens than i really can spend time with), and the five of them all get along great, so i can't imagine anyone's ganging up on each other (the two with trouble are the isbar cockerel & the smaller of the two isbar pullets).

so, I'm imagining perhaps some rodent getting in at night and chewing on them? or is there some other possible cause I'm not thinking of? i'm not sure what to do, and i feel so badly for them! the missing-toe areas look almost black, like they had frostbite (not likely in this weather)...
