Karen, you need some Golden Cuckoo Marans if you like the crele look.

That is why I like mine. I am working on egg color. One of my pullets lays a nice dark egg that has not lightened up over her laying cycle. Below are some of her eggs. I just hatched a couple pullets from her eggs to further my project.

Oooh! I love the look of the Pyncheons!

Hope you have a good hatch!

I am excited because today my porcelain d'Anver hen who hasn't laid for almost a year has started laying! Now I can use my buff Columbian rooster with her because he carries porcelain. That will give me both colors and both are accepted colors for showing.

I do like the crele look & certainly like the dark eggs of the BCMs. I did have Golden Cuckoos from 2 different sources but the were not standardized at all. 3 different roosters all different one from another in size, conformation & color & hens with poor egg color for Marans. I guess I feel that I got serious too late in the game to take on project birds. I still try to improve what I have that I intend to keep but the thought of long term project birds make my head spin. I am not calling myself "old" mind you.......LOL

I hope they are heat hardy. I hear the Basque are & they are crele colored & big right??????
I got some wonderful Basque hatching eggs from @juststruttin in 2012. I kept 1 hen and she's a trooper - great layer, good health. Interesting body shape - they look really front-heavy, like they are always leaning forward a bit. Not sure I'd describe her as crele though, but you be the judge:

Her siblings varied - one had more white & the other was darker gold/red.

There are different brands too but I think they are basically the same. I bought 2 after @Lotsapaints
recommended them. I had something invade my area & kill three of my best BCM hens even though it didn't get in the pen. I was warned to change their position from time to time or the predators get used to them & don't see them as a threat.

Very nice looking. I need to revamp mine. Me thinks I could build a better mousetrap so to say. I want a removable bottom tray for clean out. Cleaning solid bottom brooders is a pain in the rear. A suggested raised hardware cloth floor might be the answer with a tray under it to catch the poo & then just pull it out dump & clean it & put it back in place.

I wonder if worms like chicken poop. I know they like rabbit poop but chicken poop is so strong by comparison. A four box worm system is my next project. $3 for 15 mini night crawlers for fishing I think is outrageous. I bought the 4 containers today. I am still researching. Too many choices European night crawlers, Canadian night crawlers, Alabama jumpers...etc....Wouldn't it be great if I could use the soiled wood shavings from the chicks for the worm boxes. Probably no such luck but I can use it in the compost pile anyway.

Worms no likee bird poo.
Yay for hatched chicks and up and coming babies.
I got seven dust tonight to try. I have been convinced it can't be as bad as I thought it was since its everywhere. I came home to mites in the silkie coop so I dusted everyone on top in the dark. I have a bunch of offended silkies now and I have been throughly sevined and am in no danger of getting bugs in the near future

I have made covers for square ones before...it's the curves on the stock tank that are stumping me.

The hardware cloth is sturdy enough to support the frame on the rounded areas. My frame is larger than the box measurements It just hangs over a bit.

I am not familiar with that color of AMs Jason. I will have to look it up. How is their egg color?
I rec'd the Bielefelder eggs in the mail today & have them resting in an egg carton point down. I didn't want to wait any longer so put the Silver Cuckoo Marans eggs going a couple of days ago & just filled the rest of the Brinsea 20 with my eggs. The Silver Cuckoos are beautiful birds but don't have the egg color the BCM have. I love crele birds so really like the look of the Bielefelders. I hope they are heat hardy. I hear the Basque are & they are crele colored & big right??????
You should see the Basque cockerel I just picked up from Ron. I can't wait for quarantine to be over so he can meet the girls. Lovely birds!
