California - Northern

A temporary pen has been all set up for the little ones, so they're now officially living outside. They'll stay in this pen until they're big enough to live with the big girls. It is housing 3, soon to be 5, babies. This is the biggest I could make it. I put chicken wire on top of it and zip tied it so if a hen jumps on it she won't fall in. It's in a secure, predator proof chicken run.
How long will it take for my pullets to be 3/4 the size of a full grown hen? They're about 6 weeks now. BC Marans, Cream Legbar, and Buff Polish.

I have had no shows..........but I would be sad to think a person would actually toy with you that way....................not nice at all......:(
Mario             in prison????????   That's a laugh........ we all know he's a good guy.

He would gwt in trouble for being a smart *****.

Sick birds will often have a heavy load of mites and lice just because they are sick, so keep looking for other thing that can cause crop stasis, I doubt it's due to external parasites.

I never thought about that. Silkues just get em because they cant get dust under the fluff.

If I were you I would weigh the rest of my birds, then start to weigh them weekly. That way you'll know the next time one is ill as birds don't go from fat to thin overnight. Once a bird is thin like you describe, the chance they'll live, even with aggressive, supportive care, is slim at best.

I am in Humboldt Count about 200 miles north of S.F. I consider North to be north of S.F. Just my feelings.....Sometimes you hear folks who live in Central CA claiming they are in Northern CA...it just ain't so..We have 14 hens and a rooster and 10 sex link chicks that are about 8 weeks old...Gonna have a lot of eggs next season...

Im gonna go through and wheb them all wheb i get off work. shouldnt most standdards weigh around 4-5 lbs?

Depends on the breed and the bird. For example, peahens are supposed to weigh 3-4kg, but several of mine weigh 4.4kg. Just get a baseline weight on everyone in the morning when their crops are empty. If they're still growing that number should increase, if they're mature, it should stay the same. Any loss or lack of gain in a growing bird is a sure sign of illness. Make sense?
