darling!
Mine are from the Kittle line? I have a pair in their own breeding pen at the farm. So far, fertility has not been good. I guess I need to give them a feather trim. I have 5 eggs cooking in the incubator that I hope are developing. So far, I've only had 2 chicks from them (1 is definitely a cockerel) and 1 cockerel chick that is a RIR mix breed from before the breeds were separated. I love the birds and the chicks. They are like tanks! I just need to hatch some more pullets for my boy!Are the Kittle Line from @PetRock ?
I can't wait to see how they turn out!
Yes you do need more! Horstman has the Kittle line. He has been improving them and they are better than they were several years ago. They are very nice--not like the Mohawks that some have but getting close.Mine are from the Kittle line? I have a pair in their own breeding pen at the farm. So far, fertility has not been good. My household routine takes about 20 minutes for the brooders in the porch to do the chopped scrambled eggs & plain yogurt & clean & fill water jugs. Then just a few more minutes to fill the feeder in the grow out pen (peach bin) & top of the 5 gallon water pail with the nipples on the front patio. The fodder feeders 9 trays take 4 miutes twice a day for 7 days then to dump them to each pens takes a little while. The feeders in the breeding pens & layer pen last a week so they don't take much & the water is automatic so it just needs checked on. That's about as easy as I can get it. It has to be for me to continue. It is working pretty well so far.I don't do it every day these days but it really just takes me 15 min and the girls love it! I'll start back up with it when my chick population decreases. It is just so much work taking care of multiple groups of chicks in different brooders.
other response have already told you your light will work on your penciled rocks. They are just beige...........I figured as much. I am getting Silver Penciled Rocks, do you know what color their eggs are? I know they're brown, but I'm not sure what shade of brown and that will determine if I need to get a brighter flashlight/candler or not.
Your efforts are inspiring Chris....Keep up the good work.I was hoping for a Memorial Day move in but lost a weekend with a sick kid and another to just bad luck. Still trying though!![]()
I've been stalking his Facebook page; don't know how much longer I can hold out...
That's Great!
I did think about the weather quite a bit with the design. Most of the rain and winter wind comes from the North so that wall is solid (also faces our neighbors so for the sake of good will). The slant on the roof runs East to West (east side is high) which should hopefully reflect the late afternoon sun. But since our summer breeze comes from the West (off the Sac river) I have large 4'x2' windows on both E/W walls and will leave the gap between the top of the siding and the roof (the rafters depth) open for venting (vents and windows will be covered with hardware cloth for safety). South side is the people door, egg door, and another 2'x2' window. Run will extend to the east under the walnut tree and I plan on planting some chicken-friendly shrubbery to shade the west.
Jules took home the older group & I kept the slightly younger group. I think I have 10 in there & it looks like only 1 cockerel. We may need to do some trading back & forth.I hope that they are, too! Karen and Jules are going to be breeding them with us. I delivered 19 chicks and 2 dozen eggs to be divided between them. That should give them a good start! If there is anyone else interested in joining us in breeding them, I have sexed chicks and straight run chicks plus could collect eggs.![]()
LOL! They don't know what to do with it because they don't get the wonderful mash! They were just on starter here with occasional egg which they ignored. You will have to spoil them. I think that I just had too many to do more than the basics with them.Jules took home the older group & I kept the slightly younger group. I think I have 10 in there & it looks like only 1 cockerel. Your Pita Pintas don't know what to do with the eggs & yogurt....They are pretty much ignoring it. They are probably waiting fro their expected wonderful mash their Mommy made for them.............LOL. The 3 Mottled Japanese pullets that Dyann brought to add to my 2 cockerels & 2 pullets settled right in. They are only a week or so older than mine.
My little cockerel is around 12 weeks old now and I call him Tank! It is amazing how solid and heavy he is!Yes you do need more! Horstman has the Kittle line. It is fun to pick them up and feel how solid they are!

It depends on what you are trying to do. If you are trying to clean off salmonella and ecoli and mg/ms it needs to be activated and in warm water. I am doing a test with this on my party eggs I dipped them all in 140° activated oxine water but did not rub or wash so to speak. Theoretically this should kill bacteria but not take off the bloom.
SALAD!!Lol... it sounds like an addicts' excuse, but honestly a good 70% of the chicks I am growing out are freezer-bound, and about 25% more are being grown out for family members who are taking them when they're ready to overnight in coops, so I haven't added all that much to my flock this year. I've got 45 chicks coming from Murray McMurray to my house the first week of June, but only three of those are mine (or four if my dad gets plenty of hens in his straight-run Dorkings).
Yeah, the vet's office struggles with it. One of the techs calls her Salad.
Oh that is so funny! I had never thought of thatMcCombs is an appropriate name for crazy chicken folks.![]()
I had to confess my faults and Nolan nobly forgave meVery interesting. You had me guessing....LOL
Need to check out the blowing out of the fans maybe that's why mine was stuck when I first got it. Thanks Jason
Your names are Lovely Rebecca but does Noble Nolan know you are using his BYC sign in...........LOL I so enjoyed having your entire family here Sunday. Happy Birthday to your father. Was it Aislin/vision the one you had trouble getting out of the pool???? So funny.................. I am serious....... you & your family are welcomed to come & swim anytime. We can make an afternoon of it & do lunch & let the kids swim.
Bielefelders are so beautiful! I'm resisting adding any new breeds! REALLY RESISTINGMy first 2 Bielefelders are out running around in the Brinsea. Maybe I will be able to set the Pita Pinta & Dellies tomorrow.
That is good to know! I wondered how bad it is. That means I can use it while the baby is sleeping and a fan should blow it all out - no need to worry about using it only outside.Jason, I had the same concerns. Really, I did. After using activated Oxine, I felt silly for being worried. It's not bad at all, hardly any odor, no harsh fumes like bleach. A painters type mask (no respirator needed) is fine.
Would love to get into breeding but as you know I am limited on the space issueI hope that they are, too! Karen and Jules are going to be breeding them with us.
