Are you kidding me? Is this real life??
Okay, if I get one of my bantams to hatch I hope you don't mind if I replicate this picture with my good camera. I'll have to take pictures of the itty bitty babies next to everything that can show size!

Big excitement in the coop this week. The first little clutch of Seramas hatched!

5 hatched of 7 eggs set, shared between 2 hens.

An odd thing happened though. I accidentally removed one egg thinking it belonged to a Silkie. The egg sat on my counter overnight in temps that got down to 58º. The next morning my son noticed the egg was marked #2 Serama egg, so I though I'd put it back and see what happened. Surprisingly, 3 days later, it hatched! It was the biggest egg too, which is why I mistook it for the Silkie's egg.

I think it might be the larger of the yellow chicks. Would being chilled make a chick a bit "sticky"?

Another nest should hatch Saturday and a third nest next week.

This is our first time hatching. Sure it won't be the last. Think we are in BIG trouble here!

Ok next questsion Fodder Seed mixes. Any recommendations?
I buy 50 lb bags of King Feed barley, oats, and wheat. I used to grow fodder with it but now I just sprout the grains and feed them to my chickens on day 3 or 4. I also buy the bag of wild bird seed at Costco. It has a high percentage of BOSS (black oil sunflower seeds) along with millet and a few other seeds.

It did!! I got it set up just a little before 11, and so far everything seems to be running perfectly. I'm waiting until about 8:30 tonight to set the eggs as the Trader Joe's eggs need to reach room temperature. It's an agonizing wait.
