Eating is fine... I don't know what normal as I have no experience with it. If I had one with bubbles I'd weigh it daily and watch for weight loss or zero gain in a young one and medicate if they were losing or not gaining. Of course I'd also medicate if they stopped eating or looked depressed.

I just called my vet to see if they can test for mycoplasma, they're going to call their lab and get back to me after 9 when the lab opens.

So if this is MG and I choose to euthenize a bird and send it in, can I do this AFTER they have recovered since I will be treating it? Can I have my vet euthenize the chicken with an injection like they do for dogs/cats, or will this affect the results?

Those are probably questions for your vet. Have you been able to separate your chickens yet?

It is a long drive, but UCD Will euthenize and test for free. It may be cheaper to drive there then to pay for the Vet test.

Too bad the carrion Lilly is not blooming now. That would be a kick to see at the Arboretum on Campus.

My chickens seemed to really like it for the brief period I had it. I did too except for the leaking. I have heard you have to careful who you fuy the nipples from too. Some say the cheap ones from China are more likely to leak. The regular waterers for chicks is so messy I would really prefer not to have those in the brooder.

There are a number of things that can be done to stop the leak.

You could use plumbers tape you could also seal around the nipple with a clear silicon calk (do not want to use a lot as the birds will probably peck at it even inadvertently) I would just add a bit around the inside around where the rubber ring is to add a bit more of a seal.

Another thing that could be done is to build a catch under the nipple that drains out to a flower pot or herb garden. You could do this quite easily as an extension to a PCV pipe trough feeder.Here is a crude pic of the design (and just might build one as Ive been thinking about this) You would use the "T" junctions and a drip line

But I know the hatchability is iffy, and the Brinsea I got will only fit about half a dozen, so instead of getting some Austra White and White Leghorns I could end up with an incubator full of duds...

You would know in 5 days and then add some more.

The eggs are very cheap compared to hatching eggs from breeders. The price of 12 is less then some charge for one egg! Sorry to those selling them, but $50.00 per egg is way too expensive.
