Adorable! What is the beautiful little silver one in the middle?

That is one of the Konza Ranger. The Rangers are a land race type of project, so they can have a lot of different looks to them. That one is going to be huge!

Candled the last egg - and there's movement! Going to read thru the assisted hatching guide again but does anyone have any tips/suggestions at this point? Today is day 24 and it's been almost 24 hours since the other one pipped.

Also, the one that hatched is all dry but some of its fluff is dried stiff. Should I attempt to clean it off with a wet towel or wash it off? Or just let it be? I'll post a pic from my phone in a min.

I don't know if I'd call it a landrace project. Basically a landrace breed is a breed of chicken that lived semi-feral and the breeding was done by natural selection.

Renee's Konza Rangers (a name she made up) are a "breed" she developed by crossing multiple breeds. If there are differences in the chicks, it's because they aren't yet breeding true to type.

She has worked on them for quite a while and I'm sure they are developing nicely for the purpose for which she created them.

I was working down at CalExpo today to run the poultry meat classes and egg classes.

WOW, the burned out areas from the fire were HUGE. The entire Z Lot (livestock parking) was a sea of black soot. At some point the fire had jumped the service road and part of the area closer to the Grandstand was burned as well.

There won't be any hiking through the weeds this year!

Good luck to the 4H and FFA kids trying to keep their white pants clean when walking to/from their cars.

She is giving up the project so maybe the new owner will work on getting them to a Standard. Now they look like a bunch of different breeds.

Got a stubborn broody who's never even laid eyes on a rooster

. Even knowing she has no chance, I still feel like a jerk booting her from the nests she's trying to hide and stealing her eggs. Sorry, girl.

Can you get her some fertile eggs to hatch?

My quail hatch did not go so well. Out of 14 eggs I think I am only going to get 3. The Texas A&M hatched overnight but had a wry neck. I gave it a tiny bit of poly vi and it seems fine now. Next to hatch was a Pharaoh and it seems to have a little trouble standing. I gave it a little Poly vi too but not as much as the other one. Not seeing a lot of improvement and will give little more if not better by morning. The third one looks like a Golden. There is no sign of life in the remaining 11. Today is Day 18. I will leave them overnight and see if anything happens. If not I will eggtopsy. I think I let the humidity dip too low a few times.

It's also lockdown for the other eggs from the same shipment Finger's crossed for those!

I also just set 19 BLRW eggs from Papa Brooder. If the incubator holds up this time and nothing breaks, I hope to get a better hatch this time.
