Saw a mother and her 9-10 fully feathered baby wild turkeys this morning. (She looked like a young mom too). they were so cool looking. the babies were around the size of my dels (a bit taller of course)

Nor Cal Chickens is in Chico...hit them up for a half dozen of what makes you happy. I had a girl nest on black walnuts too...they didn't hatch

They didn't hatch? bummer. They're black so I was hoping some Ayam Cemani might pop out. I did post an add on one of Nor Cal Chicken's pages, but it is still pending administrative approval. I just posted on the 530 page as well.

Who is that was hatching all boys? Somehow they have infected me who hasn't hatched a thing.

Of the 7 chicks I picked up from Karen's it looks like I may have 6 boys and 1 girl (of course I knew about 2 of the CLB boys)
Looking more and more like my Pita Pintas are boys. the jury is out on the Delaware (but it usually is with them)

But I was hoping for 4 more hens for my backyard laying flock with at least 2 blue eggers.

If only I could keep the boys. Reggie (the small CLB) is so sweet and friendly.

I don't know if I'd call it a landrace project.  Basically a landrace breed is a breed of chicken that lived semi-feral and the breeding was done by natural selection.

Renee's Konza Rangers (a name she made up) are a "breed" she developed by crossing multiple breeds.  If there are differences in the chicks, it's because they aren't yet breeding true to type.

She has worked on them for quite a while and I'm sure they are developing nicely for the purpose for which she created them.

Do they fill out better than pita pinta (sp?) or Bresse? What is the processing age?

I don't know much about them. Here is Renee's thread on them. She's the one that created them, but I believe she is abandoning the project in an effort to cut back. (I can relate to that)

Renee hope to get back into them in a couple of years but yep she is selling her breeders

Hi all - I am having chicken health issue which I am already trying to solve in the health/diseases thread. Does anyone know of a poultry vet in the Greater Sacramento area? I am hoping UC Davis is not my only choice. Every vet group I call either has no avian expert or if they do, they are not keen on seeing chickens. (Parrots get all the glory.)

Sorry, I do not know of any local Avian Vets.

You can take in a sick one for euthanizing and Necropsy.

If you suspect parasites, they will float test manure for about $10.00.

When I worked in Gold River I stopped to let a family of turkeys pass the road, of course the guy behind me wasn't paying attention and rear ended me (constant back issues since). A week later I had a full grown turkey stand by my car door and not let me out. When she finally let me out she and her babies followed me to the door and was waiting for me after work. She did this on a regular basis. I started bringing snacks with me so she would let me out of my car. My co-workers and friends started calling me the turkey whisperer. My boss left me a rubber turkey on my desk as a joke. I now work in Roseville and yep wild turkeys like to follow me in the parking lot.

When I get a bigger place to raise birds. I want to have those white turkeys with the black tip feathers. I thought the toms were so striking and looked so pretty. Ill need to find the picture again
