The tube actually goes down the right side of their mouth.

Thanks for posting the picture!

My Left is your Right so the picture removed the confusion. I would call that the left side because it is on my left. Too funny!

The end of the tube has two holes, which is fine when tubing larger birds, but the chick's necks are very short, so the end need to be cut off or there is a risk that they will aspirate the liquid because the top hole is too close to their mouth. Make sense? (I'm not very good at explaining these things). Once the tube is cut it will be too sharp for the inside of their mouth and throat, so you need to smooth the end with a file or smooth it by melting it a little with a lighter. If you think it's smooth enough to go on the inside or *your* nose, it's smooth enough for them.

One person told me they couldn't get a tube, so they used the insulation from a piece of wire. I haven't tried that, but thought it was pretty clever. Watch the videos I posted in post 53788

Wow...that one looks like it is built like Cornish X. What breeds are in there?
Probably just the pic. She's not that stocky. It was my white AM (hatchery stock) with my blue copper marans. Not much meat on her right now. I adore her mom! She is so friendly and lays tons of eggs

I need some help, if you don't mind. i have a chick that hatch last week. it kept getting poop stuck to its butt. it's not put water, but getting stuck to the butt.
I've tried oatmeal, and yesterday everything seemed good. no poop. then last night it starts up again. seems to be doing well (active and eating and drinking). i put probiotics in the water too.
i just don't know what to do for this little thing. i did trim the fuzz on the butt thinking it would help bypass the butt. did not work, probably was better off with it there
help please :)

Thats awesome info Kathy! At first I thought "too scary for me to attempt", but the pic of the inside of the mouth looks pretty straight forward. The left side goes to the crop? I was always worried i'd go in the lungs, which apparently is the middle, correct? Of course your a pro, i don't think my birds will open up for me like that.
