I need some help, if you don't mind. i have a chick that hatch last week. it kept getting poop stuck to its butt. it's not put water, but getting stuck to the butt.
I've tried oatmeal, and yesterday everything seemed good. no poop. then last night it starts up again. seems to be doing well (active and eating and drinking). i put probiotics in the water too.
i just don't know what to do for this little thing. i did trim the fuzz on the butt thinking it would help bypass the butt. did not work, probably was better off with it there
help please :)
I usually just pluck the fuzz.

Thats awesome info Kathy! At first I thought "too scary for me to attempt", but the pic of the inside of the mouth looks pretty straight forward. The left side goes to the crop? I was always worried i'd go in the lungs, which apparently is the middle, correct? Of course your a pro, i don't think my birds will open up for me like that.
The entrance to the crop is on their right side, and with the correct sized tube, it's almost impossible to put the tube in the trachea. The only risk is in over filling or have the tube move, in either case, they can aspirate. As long as the end of the tube stays in the crop and you don't overfill, you'll be fine. Tubing is part science, part art, but *anyone* can do it!

For those that are thinking they might try it someday, the tubes I would recommend having are sizes: 8, 10, 12, 16, 18 and 30.

Quote: Thanks, that's one of nicest compliments I've had! Hardly a chicken DR... plenty know way more than I, but if I can help with things that I've had lots of experience treating/doing, like blackhead, egg binding and tube feeding, I'm always happy to do what I can.

Thanks again,
Kathy
