It hooks up to a regular faucet and a garden hose can be used as an extension--there is no pressure reducer. This is the second year And I have three sets of them now.
Well f m l. We had another fox attavk in broad daylight. Appearently my top in silkie shed was not fox proof.
I am missing 4 hens . 4 hens are in shock and can move their necks but heads are flooping so may have fractures. All roosters made it.
This weekend I will get rid of the run in silkie shed and give it a door in the floor and a mini run in the area under the shed . Clearly I can't make the run safe.
I am letting the floppy headed ones sleep for now and am going to give them asprin and cocunut water drip ( electrolytes) in a few hours. They are passed out and go into a panic when touched.
I think 2 will be ok and 2 are questionable. My last splash hen neck is still floppy and phyllis had blood out of her mouth so likely internal bleeding.
Mario caught one fox but the missing hens indicate it was more then 1 . Thats 2 foxes in 2 weeks. Im going to make sure all water is dumped at night im wondering if they are coming for the duck pond and staying for the chickens....
I hate scrub jays. They will eat anything they can kill and it's usually chicks...chicken or otherwise. They used to raid all the robin and sparrow nests around here and they birds no longer nest here...

I am worried about him killing the hatched chicks. Working on reinforcing the predator security. At least it's kept out the skunks, dogs and possums I was actually worried about.

I hope the chickens recover. Shock can be a bad thing.
I was reading on another thread that the Government relocated Grizzly bears to Mountain, on private land. The Mt. is ringed by houses. The person posting lives in one of those houses and knows that it will just be a matter of time before the Grizzly Bears will come down for food in the form of chickens.
This year is bad because of the drought. Yes water but also food is scarce, much worse than last Fall.
Hi there. Been away for most of the last 2 weeks. @ronott1 and @PetRock any thoughts on this baby's sex? While I was gone over the weekend something got my other PP baby.
Pretty sure it was a cockerel judging only by behavior. This little one seems like a pullet to me. What do you guys think?
My catch up has been hit and miss. I am sorry for the failed or disappointing hatches also bummed for chiqita and her backyard basically becoming the new home for area bobcats!
Happy for those of you with successful hatches. Ron those silkie babies are something else! The konzas are hail and hearty and feathering in really cool.
@PetRock the timing didn't work so well this go around for me to get eggs or chicks. It would have been pullets because for the first time since March I don't have anyone on or waiting for eggs. It is still something I want to do though. Sorry my follow through has not followed through yet.
Will be posting pics of the EEs/BBS AMs from papabrooder...Any sexing help there would be doubly appreciated as I would like to get rid of at least one of them if I have 3 pullets like I think I might.
It occurs to me that I am going to need to eventually have to separate my CLB pullet from the boys as I try to integrate her into the backyard flock. I think Im going to need a buddy or 2 for her in the next couple of weeks. (I don't think I can take the risk of putting her outside with one of the boys as he may start crowing). Any suggestions?
Haven't read the last two pages, but...I got a new foster dog today, and tomorrow I'm going to visit a dog I fostered for over half a year. It's been good to have some distractions what with my kitty being gone.
Here's the new foster boy. He's been play bowing at the chickens but I'm not ready to let him be in the same yard as them yet, he's just been seeing them through a fence. He's a Border Collie mixed with who knows what.

I guess I got missed a while back before sick birds took over the list (seems to happen a lot) What do you guys do about nest boxes and cracked eggs. My new layer is digging out to the bottom of my wooden nest box to lay her eggs. Right now the box is pretty full of pine shavings. Should I switch to straw? I have a small linoleum on the bottom of the box right now. Do I just need to add more bedding to make it deeper so she can hollow and still not reach the bottom?
