Ok one of my CLB boys is exhibiting curly feathers on his shoulders (er leading edge of the wings). Is this a trait they can throw as part of the Crested gene?

I dont think so they are on the top of the wing I think of that as shoulders. Right where the big round bend is when they are folded
They are a few flipped up

What do you mean you have to choose a sex? As in you will either get all boys or all girls ? Just curious

Yes! You can't breed frizzle to frizzle because a double dose of the expressed gene (frazzle) is bad. Not always but enough of the time its not good. As people breed long lines of frizzles we are learning more about the gene. There seems to be a recessive version that is very rare and a wolly version. But its all still in the how did I get THAT stage in the subtitles.
I had my first chick hatch!!!

Finally! !!
Many congradulations to you!!!

Anybody out there "locally" breed or own silkie Hedemora chickens?
They are VERY cute. Probably not best suited to our climate, though.
