Guys, can I do an at-home necropsy and post pictures to see if there's anything obvious that killed the chicks?
That would work for major causes but not for bacteria and such. It sounds like some type of bacteria or fungus type of cause.

@bcollie I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time with the chicks. I lost two from shipping stress and it was just awful.

Thank you. I'm going to do some number crunching and see if I can figure out exactly how much money I have...I'm almost positive I don't have enough to pay for Carolina's necropsy shipping fee, but maybe I'm wrong. Last I checked I had $10.![]()
Not exactly sure how to find out how much money I have...My parents pay for all my expenses - food, gas, medications, meat for the dog, etc. They used to just transfer me money on as-needed basis but have decided that it's better to just transfer me an exact amount each month and I have to make that last for the month. Anything extra at the end of the month, I get to keep. Not really sure how to figure out how much money I have for myself right now since I have $75 in the bank...but still need to buy food for Nelly, and for myself, and who knows what else. Ahh, this is all so confusing!

They know I'm good with money so I think that's the only reason they trust me with it! Money seriously stresses me out though, it always has.
They are not open tomorrow. There is an off hours drop off so you could drive there and drop them off. If someone has a hybrid or good gas mileage car it might be less expensive now. Gas is under $3 per gallon here now.I may just pay Carolina's shipping fee tomorrow(if CAHFS is open) or Monday and spend the rest of the month eating Top Ramen and feeding my dog chicken(cheap) to make up the difference.Someone on here(won't say names, but you can point yourself out if you feel comfortable) said they would cover the fees for sending in the chicks. I don't like people paying for things for me but Ron is right that it's important to find out what's going on with all these chicks dying.![]()
But I would hate to send in the chicks and then have them say, "oh sorry, you didn't pay the bill we sent you a month or two ago so we aren't going to do necropsy on these chicks"...Don't know if they'd actually do that or not but I don't want to chance it. And it really just needs to be paid! So, cheap food for the dog the rest of this month it is! And I will survive on cheap food until my mom comes home to take me food shopping next week lol! I THINK I budgeted well enough to have enough left over to pay for Carolina's shipping fee but I don't want to risk running out of money so I'll just have to be careful for the rest of the month.
This gives me a headache. Money in general gives me a headache. Scientists really need to make a money tree, and give me one![]()
Or maybe that's not a good idea...I'd probably spend it all on rare breed hatching eggs![]()
It normally takes a week or two after the squat to the first egg. It can all take longer now because of the low hours of light we have.My EE has been POL for 6 days and had at least 2 egg masses move thru her but I can't find any eggs! Her cloaca is all large and mobile. No egg song, either. But I definitely felt the differences in her abdomen. Is there any rule of thumb about how long it takes to make an egg once they squat for fertilizing?
My Australorp just started being at POL yesterday (she probably wants as much attention as Penny is getting - lol) but so far no egg lumps in her egg passage.![]()
Thanks for the advice!
