Also, can anyone tell me some names of good trail/game cameras? I'm looking for one under $100.
Hello,
Quote: Glad to hear they work well. Those bottles I have in the cages right now are a pain to use and I really need something more automatic. The highest level of cups will be about 3 1/2 feet off the ground and to go another 3-4 feet above that would just be too high for to reach. I may just get out there and run a line from the closest spigots in the nearby raised beds. I can plumb it directly to one of the drinker lines with a pressure reducer. If it would require the bucket to be that high I would have to fill it with a hose and therefor I would need a pigot run to the pen anyway,
Quote: Thanks! I try to cause the same kind of trough whenever I can too..... I like your bucket set up and it would work well for low pens. But the pens would be too high for kit to work with it this way.![]()

Quote: I am currenlty using what I think is a 4 gallon bucket with snap on lid. I have one hung an fortunatley have not had any issues with the bucket distorting. I don;t screw thr lid on though....for the most part it just sits on top to keep bugs/debris out. I will definitley keep that in mind for future ones though.
Aww....so sorry. Poor old girls.I lost my 3 old hens today. I'm thinking it was a raccoon. They were my best girls, and all were going to turn 7 this year. I found the bodies of two, but no trace of the third.![]()
Quote: I am planning to keep my breeding birds in this pen but still have a cage with about 30 birds I need to sort for processing. They are on the ground and it is quite muddy around the pen. I have kept it fully covered during the rains so it is minimally wet inside. I am hoping to get them sorted this week while the weather is dry. DH is going back to work on Tuesday so he won't be underfoot, but I have to take my Mom to Chico to get her new car clearcoated (6 hour process) that day so it will be pretty much shot. Thursday is Thanksgiving and then we are supposed to get more rain, so Wednesday is pretty much it.
That pen in the video I had to do entirely my self since DH does not approve of the quail. The only think he did was help me move it into the chicken pen. He thinks if he helps me with housing them it will only encourage me to keep them. He thinks they tire me out too much......
I'm pretty sure that nobody but someone who keeps chickens looks at my coop and my run and thinks it's overbuilt to the max, and that I'm certifiable to have done all that. Blah, blah, blah. But, we know raccoons have been on top of the run because there were dents that showed up after we had some serious NOISE out back that wasn't there until that night... Our raccoons are so bold they walk down the drive when my husband is out there having a smoke! They've come within 6 feet of him a time or two, and they just ignore him.
I didn't pay all that money for my started pullets to feed the raccoons. Nor do I want rats in there, or mice. So, I have my Fort Knox, and I'm happy about it. The only vermin I'm seeing close to the coop is some vole/mouse thing making tunnels next to the pavers on top of the apron, and everything thing I'm seeing of that vermin is outside my coop, there is NOTHING showing up inside. My chickens dig craters in the run, I'd see where the vermin dug in if they had done so.
Better safe than sorry!
that is so awesome you did that yourself! I was supposed to do one myself but when DH was watching I made my efforts look pretty pathetic. So he helped and it looks pretty awesome now.I am planning to keep my breeding birds in this pen but still have a cage with about 30 birds I need to sort for processing. Quote: I agree. They will leave a feather trail. Hawks will leave a big feather circle.
Raccoons usually eat the head and the organs and leave the rest. That doesn't mean that something else didn't come for the opportunity and carry the rest away though.
