Beautiful eggs! The farmer who owns the land where my breeding flocks are housed, is interested in getting some chickens that lay dark brown eggs. We have both tried hatching FBCM. His hatched but then died and not a single egg hatched for me. Maybe we need to get a Spanish breed since we are both very happy with our Spanish Pita Pinta.
No was going too but I drive to far as it is to work so last thing I want to do is drive to Modesto on my day off hagaSo tempting! Are you coming to the poultry show on the 31st? We might be up in your area on 2/1 if all goes as planned.

Hello NorCal BYC folks.
I just signed up after lurking about for some time and found this post and thought I'd say hello. Our family is really looking forward to raising chickens and eating those wonderful tasting eggs.
Cheers!
Bradley
We got a Marans from someone who handles all their chickens from hatch and she was calm when we received her into the flock. However calm she was around humans, she was sneaky and nippy to her flockmates until one day she full-out attacked the Leghorn who had to put her in her place. A week later she decided to full attack a Silkie so we immediately rehomed her. Looking calm and actually being calm with flockmates are two different things. Many breeds are quiet as pullets and seem to get along with each other until at about 18 months to 2 y/o at maturity their true temperaments show through. Leghorns are an assertive sometimes aggressive breed but we lucked out having our White Leg as a gentle alpha for 3 years before she finally wigged out and went bonkers on her flockmates and was rehomed. Don't laugh but I now keep a list of combative breeds vs non-combative breeds and never mix the two types in one flock. If a breed was created using Leghorn, Malay, or Game bird in their history I classify them in the combative breeds because you never know when these breed temperaments will surface.
I asked Professor Francesch in Spain about how egg color has been I will post pictures soon I just need to watermark them with the Aviraut logo for him. I will also be adding to the Penedesenca website.
he sent me group pictures of all the varieties
Except for 1 pure Ameraucana, mine were all flighty as heck, which is why I got rid of them. When a fully grown pullet squeezes herself through non-climb fencing to try to get away from you, it's a bit ridiculous. My 1 calm one was my best broody, but the bobcat got her.
My Cream Legbar is very mellow, she doesn't bother any of the other birds. Her eggs are gorgeous and very large. These were her first eggs.
I have not had any U of A Blues, so I can't comment on them.
In fairness to the chicks, my friend did put them out into the barnyard at too young of an age. It is survival of the fittest in the barnyard! I hatch all of our purebred chicks here in town and don't take them to the farm until they crow or lay. Of course, the mixed breed chicks seem to thrive!I get 100% hatches with my GCM eggs. Keeping the humidity at 42% helps. Never have lost a chick either. They are super fat chicks and grow fast. Roosters are super alert flock protectors too.![]()
