At what age can you reliably sex them?

Compared to some of the garbage articles coming out of that magazine, that was not one of them. I've long seen the benefits of buttermilk, whey, sweet milk as an animal protein supplement. Fish and fish meal and the toxins that can often be found in them are not a preferred substitute to me, and too much can cause enteritis in a short period of time. Saccharides found in whey keep the lactobacillus numbers up. That is why good quality dispersible powder probiotics contain saccharides. Dechlorinated water sustains it better for the bird's intestinal flora. Some, like Dawe's brand, is formulated to be used in water containing chlorine, which most city water contains certain levels of.
good point about the fish meal. If it's not recommended for us to consume ocean fish more than a couple of times a week due to mercury, giving it to animals that we consume in high levels is not a wonderful thought

I use Conklin Fastrack powder but have not come up with a good easy way to give it to my birds. When I had the time, I was mixing it with natural yogurt and grain which worked very well. Only now my schedule is such that I miss doing this too often. Ideas? Other than I'm just too busy.

On my death bed I just can't see myself saying, " If only I spent more time with the chickens."

I use Probios dispersible powder and have used Fastrack. I think Cutler Supply still carries it. With Probios dispersible powder, I just add 1 tsp per gallon of water once a week, in the morning. With buttermilk I just mix 2 ounces per pound of pellets once or twice a week. I lay out enough that they clean up quickly to avoid flies. It only takes a minute out of the day.

Hi guys. I have a question for you re your girls and their recommitment to laying eggs. My Australorps who are among my oldest, both going on 3, and my nearly 2 year old California Grey are the only ones over a year old who are laying at this point. Should I be concerned about my older girls who hatched between April 2012 and May 2013 or am I just being impatient? I honestly don't remember how long it took after last winter's break for the, then older group to get back to it. Thanks!

I have already printed out the return shipping label for the Brinsea and ordered 2 of the Premiers with the covers . The small Premiers are even bigger than the Brinsea's. I am also going to be ordering a Spot Check

I am anxious for the Pita Pinta eggs from Ron too. I ordered Bresse eggs from a lady over on the Crazy 24 Hour auction thread and was starting to think I had been duped. They were to go out the Monday after I ordered, but no word from her. No replies to contact on the thread, to PM or on her FB page. I finally emailed her and she replied that they had an ice storm so she couldn't get to the PO but would get them out this past Monday. Monday came and went and no tracking info or contact. Messaged her again on all forums. Finally got a reply on Wednesday that they had been shipped, but no tracking number. I had to ASK her for that and she it and she finally sent that but hors after she said she had shipped them. They are coming from North Carolina so I hope they arrive on time and are decent eggs. I should have held out for some from @chiqita . I will wait to see how they turn out before I post a vendor review. She sold some to another member that were to be shipped before mine. I messaged that person to see if they had gotten their eggs yet and they replied that they had forgotten all about them. I can't imagine forgetting you ordered eggs! I took that to mean that person had not gotten them either...

Here are some pics of the premiere plate. I'll try to put the first pic of how to adjust the leg settings. You push in the yellow tab and slide the legs.no twisting involved. I fell it's very sturdy and well built.

This looks very simple! Thank you so much for posting it!

Mine are starting to lay. I think one laid her first one today...a very pretty medium green one I found out in the pen. I only have I that is 3 years old and a few that are 2. My Marans that are 2 have quit laying all together but did continue thru late January. The Ameraucanas I got from @chickee are both laying. The bigger one hasn't really stopped and the smaller buff just finished a very late molt and started laying again in the last week.
