People want my SL chicks...what was I supposed to do?? Also now that their eggs have grown beyond pullet size I am required...by law I think... to hatch a few NH chicks from the trio I got from @lualshannon . gonna time that with a broody hatch though so I graft them on to a feathery mama.

Spoke to Duane Urch...always a funny experience...and I think my Houdan chicks will be shipped on the 6th of April. I got some local peeps to go in on the order with me. I am so looking forward to getting to know the Houdan and I have broody waiting for them.

Also it looks like I may be bringing home an 8 mo old Boxer boy soon.

I have a Brinsea incubator, and love it even though it is an older model. A friend has Houdans, and he simply adores this docile breed. His are mottled, and look striking with their puffy 'dos.

I am looking forward to you having some NH chicks which I believe you will love those big, calm golden chicks, and how fast they develop. If and when you order chicks again please let me know. Too bad that I heard about this one a bit too late. I hope you share photos of your chicks

Awww so sweet that they are hiding nests. They will surprise you with their children : )  Chiqita, are they able to fend off hawks and falcons?  If so, they would be perfect for my back property where I am not able to allow my chickens to range due to birds of prey. My pair  has been living with the chickens.

they are too big for mY daytome preditors. We for sure have hawks. My first pair when they were juvies fended off a pair Of foxes that Took down many chickens.

Oh wow! that's great! How does your Muscovies get along with your chickens? I have couple more questions and will PM you.

Just read through the "blue egg layers from university of Arkansas and realized it's locked. It was clear there is a belief of two different lines?....

Anyhow I have a pen open for a new project and I'm thinking blue. I have a u of a and a ccl hen and they are both sweet. @ronnot I did see your post a bit... or anyone else breeding either of these... are their any cons to either of these breeds?

They like to fly and roost in trees if given a chance. The are similar to penedesencas in temperament.

I like them but the egg farmer is having trouble with keeping them confined to his netting. He needs someone to work with him--clipping feathers on a wing would help.

Bummer. Our u of a does not fly at all but she is a pain to catch in the open yard. So funny to watch.

I am excited about the Houdan. I won't be keeping a rooster at this point so I know I will order again in the future if they are as cool as I hope they will be. It will probably be a while though I have 3 boys right now and that seems to be about my max rooster capacity.

I will try to remember to include you next time I order. He has several breeds that are interesting to me that I would be more than happy to add when I have the room. I will for sure post pics of the NH chicks when they happen.

Penedesencas: not my favorite. My remaining one screams at the top of her lungs like I'm killing her if I have to pick her up. The whole time I'm holding her! Brings the rooster running thinking I'm skinning her alive, no doubt. So if U of A birds are like that....not for me!

Crested Cream Legbars: curious, friendly birds, fairly docile, come when called,
