A couple of days ago I was moving one of the Hens out of the hutch and she squawked--Pepe my Pita Pinta rooster jumped over and gave her a warning peck--to not be fussy at me.

I was amazed!

He is a great guy and always was, even when the hormones kicked in.
My Pita PInta boys are the same way. Zorro has never given me any problems even when I'm dealing with his girls. I love my Pita PInta!

I'm not ready to buy eggs or chicks yet but thinking I'd like to have a bantam Cochin pen specifically for the Broody hens and hatching eggs. Any input would be nice. Which colors make the best broodies or just general pen design ideas or anything else. Do some breeders breed for broodyness rather than showing?

Okay,................. talked at the Modesto Show last Sunday & set a Chicken Fest party date for May 3rd a Sunday at 11 a.m. Jules @fortyfivefarm & Dyann @Chooklet & I @sewandgrow made a list of to dos. I think Jules is working on a post about it. Set the date aside for a ride to Turlock again for many of you & welcome to the new Chicken Lovin' friends too.

Quote: Q: Which colors make the best broodies?
A: Yes.

They are definitely cochinbators. I have broody bantam cochins almost year round - though they do take a break to molt. At some point or another all of my little cochin girls take their turn being broody. Some take more than one turn. Some are professional broodies. Happy to help you out if you decide you want warm fluffy mamas.

We got a nice surprise today, a baby Mookie pigeon! We aren't sure if the other egg will hatch, should know in a couple of days. Pictures are out of the question since all they want to do is slap, not the best thing to do while sitting on the baby.

We moved the extra male in with a couple of females who are sitting on infertile eggs but they wanted nothing to do with him. I'm hoping since we took the eggs away one of the ladies will be taken with him and we can get some foster parents going.
