California - Northern

Hi all,

This may be a shot in the dark but I am hoping someone here can offer some advice.

We just recently got a few baby chicks to raise. I am having pretty bad allergic reaction to them (the brooder is in our house and I cannot be in the same room at this point). I am looking to rehome them to someone in the Bay Area or is there a hatchery or farm that might take them? I am not comfortable shipping them, so somewhere/someone local is a must.

Thanks in advance.

If caychris is not able to help you out, I'd be willing to give them a nice home.
I'm in Fairfield & could meet halfway.

Pretty nifty
Here's how I turned an old kitchen wall-oven cabinet into a brooder: 7 ft tall x 28" wide, turned on it's side. roost set into cabinet, door cut, space for brooder warmer plate set. Vents drilled in top Cabinet placed on leftover hardware cloth, Plantation shutter affixed on one side (to open or shut for more air or less) A layer of shavings in the bottom... Old metal screen door over the top to prevent flying and big birds. Food, water, dust bathing area, log for jumping on...voila! Chick brooder! Door cut in "bottom end" to make a bigger yard in a few weeks! Rain protection on the left end added last night. Otherwise all is under cover, chicks doing great even with cold temps! Note: I moved the food and water further away from the "door" after a day in picture 4 so they are moving about the entire space easily now!
Me and my parents made a cool brooder as well

So finally our new ducks are following us around the yard. Not eating by hand but close. Dd was feeling discouraged and turned around at little ducky chatter to see them following her on her outside chores. Never knew how charming having ducks would be.

They had stopped when I went back out to give them some scratch. So yet again I'm panicking when I should just take a deep breath.
Bubbly eyes, nasal discharge and etc. are bad things. Shaking the head just happens sometimes. It could be ear mites but with yours it was likely the altitude change.

That gets me too.

I swear that my girls go broody as soon as I move the first group of chicks into the outdoor brooders. I wonder if it is hearing those cute little peeps that turns on the mama instincts?! This year, I had one pullet go broody and after her chicks hatched, the other pullets sta rted going broody one after another. First I had 1. Then I had 3. Then there were 6. And now I have 3 mamas with chicks and 9 broodies! Arghhhh! I love Mamas and babies but this is insane! Some of these girls are not breeds that normally go broody. 2 of my 3 Bresse are broody and 4 of my big Langshan pullets. I was getting ready to put the Langshan in with my big blue cockerel and now they are on egg laying strike!

I love it too but right now I have 4 and a little bit of an issue so hoping for some help.

I mistakenly believed that I would be receiving my Houdan this week. I have had two broodies waiting for them and now it will be at least two more weeks before they get here so I don't want to make them wait any longer. I am going to Santa Rosa this weekend to hopefully pick up a couple of CCL pullets but I would like to give each girl at least 3 chicks so I am hoping that someone in Sonoma county has/will have chicks that are less than a week old so I can make my girls happy without going to the feed store.

If you have a 4 or so chicks that will be a week or less than a week old and live someone along the 101 corridor please let me know! Thanks.
