California - Northern

Terrible! My husband use some spray he had today. I haven't looked down in their feathers, I will tomorrow. I know their feathers are all churned up. Poor things. We will work on this. I thank you and will keep you posted.

Several years ago a lady in Davis, California sat against a tree. She was bitten by so many black gnats that she had to go to the hospital. She was in a lot of pain for quite some time. We get them here sometimes in the late spring and summer. Here they come out of cracks in the clay soil.

I have a confused hen turkey.

I'm 100% sure she's a hen as I've watched her lay eggs. She thrummed & strutted - everything but gobbled. Goofy girl.
Pretty! My rooster was in the nest box today trying to lay an egg, so i get this mixed-up thing! I think he was actually telling a girl it was okay to get in, but he's done it a few times and i still crack up!

I've totally cracked up watching a few of.my roos do this, one even sings an egg song but he only does it when his favorite hen is nearby lol

Neal......I posted a comment on the above thread about not getting notifications. This morning I woke up to all sorts of notifications in my mailbox! @Nifty-Chicken said that the email server had been bouncing messages back so BYC had stopped sending them. That could be what happened to yours so if you are not getting them still would suggest letting him know on that thread and he will try to help you out too!

I am to the point with my new coop that I am looking at cutting the Pop door. I am also very seriously considering an automatic door. There are an awful lot out there so I was wondering if any one here has used one and could recommend a good one

Have discovered something rather bizarre about my cockerel. He HATES my BFF's fake nails. If she tries to feed the birds, he goes right for them, violently pecking and squawking . Doesn't seem to matter what color polish she has on either. He just does NOT like those nails. The girls don't notice them or react at all (they just want the treat being offered).

How soon after a bird is received by UCD can I expect to  hear from them?

I always hear from them by the end of the day they receive them. Of course the report is very preliminary, but often the final results on the final report are the same. Which of the four labs did you send to?
