Consider the crows a blessing. They chase away hawks because they sometimes prey on their young. I haven't lost any birds to hawks or even seen any in the area since I started feeding the crows and encouraging them to hang around.

I used to do that too but then my birds caught lice from the crows.
Just had a chick taken by a hawk. Everyone watch out for hawks this time of year!
Oh no one of the ones you hatched?
No, it was a frizzled EE from Papa's Poultry. We often have trouble with hawks here in the Fall cause they migrate through this area. I had a hen attacked by a hawk 2 years ago in October, but she survived. The poor little chick didn't have a chance though. :-(
On the bright side, I think the first chocolate EE chick I hatched is female. I am thinking that 5 out of 11 remaining chicks look female so far, fingers crossed. I ended up having to cull the super late hatching chocolate chick, cause it was developing a worsening crossbeak. First time I ever had to cull a chick; it was really hard.
Any northern CA folks encountering Fowl Pox? Several cases have been reported to a 530 Facebook group. Many are in the Chico & Yuba City surrounding areas.
Poultry and Other AvianThe latest issue of the CAHFS bulletin has some cases of fowlpox with chickens that came in for necropsy.
IF you live in an area with it, then vaccinated for it.
